New flash people! No matter what the stores are telling you with all their shiny new Autumn/Winter clothes, Summer isn’t finished yet!

This is one of the things that has always kinda annoyed me about the fashion industry – we seem to move on SO fast to the next season, we don’t get time to enjoy the one we’re in.

Hands up who’s already bought a new pair of jeans… or a knit? Even though you’re probably not wearing them yet?

It makes me sad that we move onto the next thing so quickly, when there are still so many gorgeous things around we cam make the most of THIS season!

So here are a couple of tips, and a couple of summer pieces that you can use now! (but also maybe still take into Autumn/Winter too)

1. Dress to the season – not the fashion

I love a trend as much as the next girl, don’t get me wrong – but there is nothing worse than trying desperately to bring on the new trend for the next season when the weather just isn’t ready!

I don’t know about you – but we are still smack-bang in Summer temps here in the North Island of NZ, I don’t want to be having to think about ankle boots and long pants yet!

So I’m still pulling out the summer frocks, bright colours and cool slides in this weather – no matter what the retailers are telling me is “in for Autumn”.

Shop the Summer Look: Feather & Noise boater hat $29.00 | Little Party Dress “Alice” fruit salad dress $59 | Mi Piaci lace up flats (old season)

2. Look for pieces you can wear now, layer later.

Once again, versatility in your clothes is at the forefront here. Look for pieces you can wear now, layer later.

If you’re game, dungarees are making a comeback (I can’t believe I’m about to say this, but I’m LOVING this trend haha!). What I love about this style is that you can wear it now with a singlet and sandals, then layer it up with heavier layers as it gets cooler (bonus for all us preggo ladies too – they are a dream for breast-feeding!)

SHOP THE LOOK: CottonOn dungarees $69.99^ | JustJeans singlet $19.95^ | Converse trainers from The Iconic $100^

3. Buy classic styles….and wear then next year! (and the year after)

I didn’t time this pregnancy very well fashion-wise haha! There are SO many gorgeous pieces I’m seeing and loving this summer, but they just don’t work with the bump.

But that’s ok! I know what I like, and what suits me, so I’m buying a few things that I know I’ll wear next summer, when I don’t have a rapidly expanding waistline.

Moral of the story, If you’re worried you’re not going to get enough bang for your buck from buying a summer piece now, think about the long game. Will you wear it next year? If so, then go for it!

Here are a few gorgeous summer pieces that you can get your hands on now, and definitely pull out again next year – they are timeless in my mind.

SHOP THE SUMMER PIECES: Jericho Road shift dress from Cait & Co $159 (on sale) | Decjuba denim shorts $79.99^ | Rubi shoes heels $44.95^ | Max wide brim hat $39.00 (on sale)^ | Portmans sequin skirt $59.99 (on sale)^

So hopefully that gives you a few reasons and ways not to give up on Summer so quickly. It’s such a fun season full of bright colours and cheerful prints, I’m sad to default to the blacks and greys of the cooler months.

Enjoy the sunshine and warmth while you can!
