It’s that time of year again – time to pull out my favourite item of clothing – the Maxi Dress! I spoke a little about some of the great styles from NZ stalwart, The Warehouse last week (read it here) but I wanted to open it up a little more and talk about some of the best bra-friendly maxis.
For those of us that a) are over a C cup and b) HATE wearing strapless bras (or any combination of the afore mentioned), it’s hard to find a maxi that isn’t strapless or has shoestring straps – but never fear, I’ve done all the ground work and found SIXÂ of them for you!
SHOP THE MAXI: 1. River Island maxi from asos.com $62.83 | 2. Eb & Ive maxi from birdsnest.com.au (ships to NZ) $89.95 | 3. Sacha Drake “Edina” maxi dress $299 | 4. EziBuy maxi (available in Aus and NZ) $69.99 | 5. Portmans caged maxi $119.95 | 6. Mango belted maxi from asos.com $56.55.
I also am loving this maxi from online haven StFrock.com.au (and again, yes, they ship to NZ – for FREE!). not only can you wear this with a normal bra, you can wear it several different ways…..
SHOP THE MAXI: Metamorphosis 3-way maxi from St Frock $69.00 (size 8-14 normal fit)
Saying all that, if you don’t mind wearing a strapless bra, it does open up the possibilities. I don’t mind wearing one (and as I’ve mentioned before, I’m a good DD pushing an E cup) but THIS one from Intimo is the ONLY strapless I will wear (it also comes with straps so you can wear it with one shoulder dresses and use one strap for extra support)
Intimo convertible contour bra $89.50 (aus) $107.50 (nz)
It’s not cheap, but it’s definitely worth it! But back to the bra-friendly, there really are quite a few out there, other places to look are Jacqui E, Boohoo.com to name a few. Sacha Drake always does at least two over the summer season and St Frock is cranking them out too!
Are you a maxi fan? Do you need to wear a normal bra or can you put up with the joys of a strapless? I’d love to hear where you’ve found a great bra-friendly maxi! Tell me in the comments below!
Until Next Time,
In Love & Style Always

Being able to wear strapless bras/adhesive bras comfortably will really let you have a wider range of clothes to wear, especially this kind of dresses. I would really like to get one of this when I have the chance, I have a lot of strapless bras and I’m very comfortable when wearing one.
Totally agree Cassie, but some people a) can’t find a good strapless that fits them, or b) just don’t like wearing them so this post is specifically to help out those people who don’t want to wear a strapless bra – which is totally up to them!
You’re right. But usually people don’t wear them cuz they don’t feel comfortable and they are conscious about it. That’s what I felt when I just started.
I love a good maxi, but hard to find ones that flatter different shapes. That stripy one is awesome though!

I think the nice thing about a maxi is just throwing it on and feeling like you are “dressed”. When you have to consider a special bra some of the gloss comes off. Not that I have a major problem wearing a strapless bra because as you say when you find a good one it isn’t that big of a deal. I just got the most lovely maxi from Glassons (link – http://www.glassons.com/product/sheer-pin-tuck-maxi-dress?i=DL24218CHI&v=23236189. When I wore it I had so many compliments!
Totally agree with you Kelly – especially in the height of summer, a sticky strapless dress isn’t fun. That Glassons one is gorgeous! xx
