Ok so this is not exactly a NEW trend, but it’s one that doesn’t seem to be going away (and one I’ve FINALLY jumped on the band wagon with).

PLUS today is Bright Pink Lipstick Day over here in Aus (and I think you should embrace it in NZ too!) to help raise awareness and funds to help find a cure for breast cancer thanks to pinkhope.org.au. A nicely timed post I thought.

I have always been a little scared of bright lippy – I tend to play up my eyes more when doing my makeup, but recently I’ve been a little more adventurous in giving some fresh shades a go.

So from my novice experience levels here are my top tips for giving the bright lippy a shot!

rock a bright lip

1. Go for a neutral eye when wearing a bright lip – you don’t want to seem too “over done up”. You can enhance your eye a little more at night time for more impact

2. Apply with a lipliner underneath (either in a matching colour or a neutral) and line the WHOLE lip, not just around the edge – it makes the colour stay longer.

3. BLOT – blot away baby! Once, or even twice between applications to really build the colour

4. Keep you lippy on you for those inevitable touchups – if you are anything like me, and your mouth goes at 100 miles a minute for most of the day, even the most hardy colour-stay lippy can wear off so just make sure you have you colour of choice stashed in your handbag just in case.

So here are three of my favourite shades I’m rocking at the moment (they are not all pink, but they are certainly bright!)

Clinique pink with a purpose

THE LIPPY LOW DOWN: Clinique “Power with Pink” special edition long-last lipstick. Available from Clinique Counters from Oct 1st 2014.

Chi Chi You Had Me at HelloTHE LIPPY LOW DOWN: Chi Chi “You Had Me At Hello matte lipstick – available from department stores nationally (both Aus and NZ)

Sisley Rouge Geisha

THE LIPPY LOW DOWN: Sisley “Rouge Geisha” (number L25) available at David Jones and Smith and Caughey

All of these colours have proved their worth to me! They’ve stayed on through hours of me jabbering at styling clients, drinks and dinner with the girls and I was SUPER impressed at the staying power of the Sisley red, it made it the whole way through my Bridal Showers/Hens night (Brisbane Edition, yes there are two!) with the need for only ONE re-application!

Are you a bright lippy girl? After road-testing these three gorgeous colours, bright lipstick will definitely become  a more permanent fixture in my makeup routine – how about you?

What’s your colour of choice? Any others I should try? Share the love and tell me in the comments below!

Until next time,
