You: “I’m so sick of what I wear everyday. It’s the same old stuff.”
Me: “Ok cool, what do you WANTÂ to wear then?”
You: “Oh you know, something comfortable, and casual, but I used to have more time to look stylish …. now I’m busy, I have to run around after the (insert dependants here; kids, dog, hubby, besties)”
Me: “ok, but you don’t have to choose between being comfortable AND being stylish! Let me show you how”
…………
Pretty much the standard conversation I have with my clients, you my lovely blog readers, and even just random people I meet when they find out what I do.
You’re not alone in wanting to look good, feel good, but all whilst being comfortable in both your clothes, and your own skin.
And it’s really so much easier than you think.
I was talk to Chasing Hubby the other day about it, and he suggested that I do a four part series, giving you guys some quick and easy tips to update your everyday looks – and here is part 1!
So I’m not asking you to re-invent the wheel here, if you want to wear jeans + a jumper every day, you can totally do that! I’ve got some tips on how to elevate that style just a little, so you feel like you have a little funk back in your step.
I got SUCH a huge response from this #everydaystyle outfit I posted online last weekend. I just wore it to go have coffee on Sunday with the hubby and the wee one, but everyone loved it!
So let me let you in on a little secret. The outfit is just made up of jeans + a jumper + trainers…. I just choose to elevate some of those pieces to more interesting and fun versions of the usual suspects.
So this 4-part series will give you some helpful tips and tricks on how to elevate 4 basic items that most of us would have as part of our “casual uniform” starting with item 1 Â – The Shoes.
1. Think about the shoes you love to wear day in day out
These are your starting point. If it’s trainers, then look for a trainer that is a little more fancy. Maybe it’s made from leather (not canvas) or maybe it’s a different colour, or got a bit of bling on it, who knows, but start with what you know, but better.
2. Is there a slightly dressier variation on these shoes
For me, it’s the trainer to the hightop. The hightop trainer/boot is such a funky shoe but are just as comfy and wearable as your standard converse or vans.
3. If you think it might be pushing your comfort zone, DO IT!
This is the only way your style is going to evolve, by trying new things right?
When I first saw these cool blush pink trainers from Rubi, I wasn’t sure. They were either going to look a bit silly, or look BANGIN! And I am SO glad I tried them on, they are now practically my favourite shoes!
So there are some tips on how to elevate your shoe-style, now here are some shoes that can help you do that! And you’ll see that you don’t need a big budget to have cool shoes!
SHOP THE FANCY SHOES (l-r, top to bottom): Minx Willot Boots $239 |Schutz metallic sneakers from The Iconic $79.98 | Asos seahorse high top trainers $60.47 | Deuce “Penny” sneaker from Merchant 1948 $169.90 | Dakota trainers from Number One Shoes $39.99 | Alias Mae “Pascal” black nubuck leather hightops on sale $59.95Â
So this is just step 1. We’ll work on the next step next week – Jackets! Elevating your style is just about taking baby steps away from your comfort zone, so if you want to give your everyday look a little lift, then start with your shoes. (oh, and if you think I’m telling you how to suck eggs, then you need to go and read THIS post 😉 )

I’m so scared to buy shoes online. Do you have any tips on this?? Thanks x
Hey Gillian, what makes you nervous about it? Shore are usually a pretty standard size (more so than clothing) so you’re usually safe with size.
I like sights that show the shoe on a real foot so you can actually see how they fit.
Also, make sure you check the measurements/size guide, and the returns policy – if something isn’t right, you can always just send it back remember?
what’s the worst that will happen if you buy something online? 😉
Love your sweater but can’t see it on the French connection website, could you please post a link for it.
Hey Susan, its not current season, hence on link available 🙂 its just out of my wardrobe 😉
Great blog and such practical suggestions. I need clothes with pockets in for work and struggle to do something different to jeggings with a top. Would love some dress or skirt options
Can do! dresses and skirts with pockets coming up!
Can we habe a session on the denim jacket please? Apart from my dress what else can I wear it with?
Thx 😊
GREAT idea!! I’ll put it on the list right away 🙂
Quite simple when you spell it out like that but 100% true and such a good idea.
Sometimes its just explaining things in a really simple way right? 😉 x
