How does an unlimited wardrobe sound? THAT got your attention right!? (I know!) well one smart cookie in Auckland is making that a possibility with a new store called Swap My Clothes.
I’ve been lucky enough to do a little work with Swap My Clothes and I love the idea so much I wanted to share it with you guys too!
Swap My Clothes is an amazing new concept boutique in Parnell, Auckland, that is changing the way we shop (shopping karma is a term a few of us have been using – cute hey!).
It’s like a clothing swap – but it’s permanent. It’s like a recycle boutique – but you don’t have to rely on them to sell your clothes. Basically you don’t shop – you swap!
Here’s how it works:
Become a member – either pay $450 for one year or sign up for $10 a week. This is the only time that money needs to change hands – the rest of the year is then yours to swap!
Bring in your unwanted clothes – You will be allocated points depending on the quality of the clothes up to the value of 6 points. Bring anything from Glassons to Trelise Cooper – as long as the clothes are not too worn (and clean – wash your clothes people – deodorant stains aren’t cool)
Start swapping! Use your points to buy new-to -you clothes. The clothes in Swap My Clothes are all marked with their allocated points, and then you can use YOUR points to ‘buy’ the clothes in the store!
As a personal stylist, I spend a lot of time telling people what clothes should and shouldn’t be in their wardrobes – after many a wardrobe analysis at a clients house, we have a pile of clothes that don’t work in their wardrobes – but SHOULDN’T be thrown away.
I would often recommend holding a clothing swap, or taking them into a recycle boutique but with Swap My Clothes, my clients have the opportunity to not only get rid of their old clothes, they get to find new ones to replace them without having to buy them new! (wait, am I putting myself out of a job here?!!)
Why Swap My Clothes is different
There are so many different brands – the couple of times I’ve been in, I have seen everything from Yevonne Bonnetti and Karen Walker to Glassons, Portmans and Dotti – there is something for everyone!
Size 8 – 18 represent! Because people from all walks of life bring in their clothes, you have a great variety of sizes to choose from.
You can even wear something once and bring it back! Yup – if you like something, and you need it for a special event, ‘swap it out’ with your points, and then bring it back and get points back!

What an amazing concept! Fantastic for shoppers and great for the planet. Have already shared the details with some lucky friends – thanks for the heads up.
I thought you might like it Jo… it’s such a great concept, and Sue – who runs it, is a delight! (and a stylist too so she knows her stuff) xx
How ironic I was walking past this new shop on the way to uni the other week and thought I must check this place out. 🙂
It’s great Jennie! Such a great idea if you are at uni too! $10 a week and you have unlimited access to a HUGE wardrobe!
