With all this buzz about Winter fashion around, I feel like we are neglecting Autumn a little don’t you think?

There are so many warm, cosy knits, and knee-high boots and large coats in store (which are all delicious, don’t get me wrong) but what about some nice lightweight layers we can pop on now?

Autumn for me is all about layering. (mainly putting them on in the morning, and slowly peeling them off as the day goes on and warms up right? haha!) And what better to layer with than an awesome lightweight coat/jacket/vest.

lightweight coats

So I’ve done the rounds for you, checked out all the best options, (I may have purchased one or two just to test-drive them for you, you’re welcome). So here are my top five lightweight jackets perfect for NOW, where you can get your hands on them, AND a few expert tips on how to wear them thrown in too.

Let’s do this!

5 lightweight jackets_CC postSHOP THE COATS: top right: Glassons tie front waterfall jacket $69.99 | middle left: Portmans sleeveless knit cardi $89.95 | middle right: Country Road fringe waterfall cardigan $169.00 | bottom left: Max trench coat $139.99 | bottom right: Jacqui E sleeveless trench $on sale $69.95

Expert Styling Tip #1: Choose a neutral that will go with everything in your wardrobe. A bright red trench is a great idea in theory, but it becomes a LOT harder to match with things, and also becomes more of a statement piece so you probably don’t want to wear it everyday

Expert Styling Tip #2: When you’re wearing a sleeveless knit or jacket, pop a FITTED long sleeve top or dress underneath in a contrasting colour or print. You will see a lot of these styled with stripes (it’s pretty much how I always wear mine!). You want to create a CLEAN silhouette underneath, so stick to fitted styles – like a body con dress, or a tight top and fitted pants (but don’t worry, the drape and waterfall effect of the jacket gives you that tummy protection that you want!)

Expert Styling Tip #3: Just wear ONE layer underneath. It’s not that cold yet and you might feel the need to take your jacket off, so make sure that you are also comfortable wearing the layer underneath on its own!

There are SO many great lightweight jacket options around at the moment! They are an easy way to give you that little bit of warmth you might need first thing, but a light layer on top is also a fun and easy way to add some interest to your everyday look!
