Not too long ago, we were chatting about how to pick the perfect black shoe (you can re-read that blog here), and seeing as I like things to be fair, I thought it was best to talk about how you add some colour to your shoe-robe too!
So as not only a shoe-girl, but a Queenslander, I’ve never met a colourful shoe I didn’t like, but I can also understand how adding some brightness on the bottom can be an intimidating concept for some too.
Let me walk you through the process of how I style with a colourful shoe, and also show you some of my top picks from my favourite Aussie shoe brand, Frankie4 Footwear.
Ok, so you love the idea of a coloured shoe, but where do you start? Here are a few of my expert tips, and some of my faves,
Start with what you have.
A really simple way to easy a colourful shoe into your look is to start with a colour that you already love wearing on your body. It might feel a bit matchy matchy but it’s a good way to ease yourself into that colourful shoe.
When the gorgeous MiM sneakers in sage arrived, I knew THE perfect dress to wear this with! The shade of the dress was really similar and I love how it turned out.
Colourful doesn’t have to mean bright either.
This gorgeous MiM sneaker comes in a variety of gelato-like shades that are subtle but have enough punch to add a little something extra to your look. (They also all come with the Frankie4 Footwear Custom Fit Pack, which allows you to change the the fit of the shoe with inter-changable footbeds to help get that fit just right)
Try a contrasting colour
This is how I LOVE to style my colourful shoes. Have a go with complementary colours that play off each other. I love pink and green together (it kinda reminds me of a watermelon right? and who doesn’t love watermelon).
And hey, sure, a white trainer would look great with this pop of pink outfit too, but a slightly different colour just adds another level to your everyday looks.
The key to matching different colours together is to keep the colours relatively the same tone, or level of intensity.
Make the shoe the statement
Of course, as Kiwi’s, you do love to wear just a bit of black haha! So the other way to add a more colourful shoe to your everyday look is to really make the shoe pop! Make it the hero of your outfit.
There are so many gorgeous colours (and prints) now available in shoes that you’ve got no excuse not to have at least one pair in your wardrobe. Here are a few more of my faves;
SHOP THE COLOUR POPS: MiM blush brain trainers $239.95 | DARCY olive boots $289.95 | TESSA pale rose heels $229.95 | POPPY peach snake ballet flats $239.95 (all prices in AUD dollars)
