That’s it, I refuse to go another day in pants! I want to wear dresses again! A maxi dress to be precise. Ok, I’ll be honest, I do still wear dresses quite a bit in winter, but usually they are of the shorter variety and I wear them with leggings (or ponte pants). But I was time to pull out the maxi dress and give in a winter work-over.

Here is how I did it:

Take one amazingly comfortable maxi dress from your favourite designer:

This is that dress – they one we all have that we put on when we have nothing else to wear, to anything, anywhere, anytime of day or  night. If you don’t have that dress in your wardrobe, I suggest you find one (THIS one is a good start). It’s my go-to for plane trips, summer afternoon BBQ’s and now Winter days when I feel like wearing a maxi!

Add some layers to keep you warm:

What you wear as your bottom layer is SO important! Merino is going to keep you warm all day. It look me several years of living in Sydney and freezing to realise that seven layers of cotton ain’t going to cut it! Invest in the right under-garments and you can wear almost anything you want on top!

( My two top picks are THIS merino camisole from Kathmandu and THESE merino socks from Postie  – they form the base of my outfits almost everyday at the moment!)

Once my foundation garments are sorted, I use pieces to layer like a second skin – they are fine and fitted so they aren’t going to add too much bulk. These two are staples in my wardrobe at the moment.

And then finish off with a fun jacket to add some colour to your outfit.

There is SO much black around in Winter that I decided it was time to invest in some colour! I wear my black bike jacket almost every second day so I thought it was best to stick to a shape I know, and choose another colour – one of the best purchases I have EVER made is this jacket. It wasn’t cheap, ut it’s SOOOO worth it (big call I know, but if you are talking Cost Per Wear {read more about that HERE} this is well on its way to costing my practically nothing!)

SO WANT TO SEE THE FINAL RESULT………

Toasty warm in my winter-style maxi dress outfit (yes, that is my layering top OVER my hands - it's got thumb holes! Too cool!

Tights UNDER the maxi add that extra layer for warmth - essential.

So being from Queensland originally (where a COLD winter is 20 degrees in the day) I’m the best person to test if a winter outfit really is warm. I’m happy to say I wore this ALL DAY (it even rained on me!) and I was toasty – so if I can wear a maxi in winter, you have no excuse ok?

What are you wearing to keep you warm this winter?
