If there is one thing that drives me more than anything else in what I do, it’s getting women to not only accept, but love and embrace the skin you’re in.
This journey through my first pregnancy (I’m currently 37 weeks) has reinforced that even more!
My body is doing things that are frickin amazing and terrifying and hard to adjust to all at the same time. Add to that everybody’s “right” to comment on the shape of my growing bump and it takes a lot of strength to keep appreciating this ever-changing shape of mine (but that’s another story in itself)
About 4 years ago, I saw a cool idea on the crowdfunding site, Kickstarter. It was an Aussie woman finding a documentary on body image, a topic that peaked my interest…
Fast forward 4 years and this amazing and inspiring women, Taryn Brumfitt has made the doco and is releasing is around the world!
Here is the trailer… (I gets to goosies every time I watch it)
I think the message behind this film is VITALLY important for everyone, me, women and children to see (I hope they start showing it in schools!)
EVERY body is amazing, and we have a body to do so much more than just look good, so why do we focus so much on that?.

So, because the message behind this film is so important and I’m so excited to see it, I have a double pass to come with me to the Auckland screening of Embrace THIS Saturday, July 30th at 1pm at the Civic Theatre in Auckland.

I know I’m just over an hour late with this comment BUT What I love most about my body is its “unique”
It’s unique to me with its scars and it’s disfigurement with its “hairy boob” from an option gone wrong with its affect of “MS” it’s unique…it’s my body xxx
yay! go you xx
Embracing my body, what a hard thing to do…..
It has to be my skin, I’ve always looked after my skin & hair, im always being told I don’t look 46 but I have to say that it’s not just your skin it’s how you smile, if you always smile you will always look and feel good.
Like us all I do need to be kinder to myself !!
Tracey I love this! A smile always makes us look our best right?
This is such a tough one as I used to have handful of things I loved about my pre baby body but I am slowly starting to accept my body for what it is and the beautiful children it has given me. I love my eyes, small feet (can always get shoes on sale!) and my narrow shoulders. This movie looks incredible? I would love to take my sister with me ☺️ Thanks Cait
Yay! Just remember what an amazing job your body had done in growing those gorgeous babies of yours! x
I love my fit arms!
you have awesome arms!! x
I’ve been on this journey to healthier me in a holistic sense. That also meant dealing with a physical and mental transformation. What this journey has helped me uncover is the love of my body, all the curves and unwanted curves, and it’s taught me to understand why I am who I am and to appreciate it. I have no desire to be like the woman splashed across the magazine showing off her slim figure. I desire to work on a healthier me that means embracing all my curves and inches of my body however wide and however tall. I will never be a perfect ideal figure and actually I glad I’m not that! #LoverYourCurvesAndEverythingThatComesWithIt
Amazing Leitu – that sounds like an incredible and worthwhile journey to have been on! keep it up xx
So much harder than I thought!
I’ve always loved my hair and it’s something I’ve always been willing to spend money and time on. The rest I’ll have to work on!
Start from the top down Kate 😉
I love that my body gave me the strength to carry 3 babies, now I am rewarding my body with good food and exercise to stay strong for my children.
go you!!! I’m carrying my first and it’s bloody hard work so power to you for 3!!
I love my butt thanks to all the squats I’ve done over the years and the body balance I do mostly now!!
haha go you!
As I get older and my body has changed, especially since having kids, I have struggled with accepting my body. But everyday, I tell myself something I love about it. I love my long neck and collar bones. And my eyes. But mostly I love that my body has produced 4 amazing kids, and for that I am thankful.
thats amazing Sophie!
I was going to say my belly as it’s what held my son, but I can’t say I LOVE it if I’m trying to disguise it with the clothes I wear ha ha. So I’m going to say my hands and my neck. I have lovely long slender fingers and like Amber, great nails! My neck is also lovely and long and because I’ve used SPF since my early 20s, it still looks pretty youthful for my age.
Great work Sara – you’re belly IS amazing and it did an amazing thing 🙂 sometimes its about acceptance before love so start there with your tummy 🙂 and yay for good hands and fingers, I like mine too x
Oh boy it’s been a hard road to embrace my body. I’ve had 3 boys and my body is not the same. I try to focus on things I like about myself like my eyes, height. Everytime you look in mirror say your beautiful. Actually wrote that on the mirror so I would see it everyday. Because I used to say horrible things about myself. I’ve gotten better. Try to appreciate what my body can do. Wear colour and things that make you feel great.
That’s such a great way to remind yourself everyday that you ARE beautiful Naomi! good work x
I love my legs, they show all the hard work i have put in excerising which has led to.huge goals been achived.
I am lucky to have inherited my Mum’s thick beautiful hair (and not my Dad’s bald head!). It’s my crowning glory and I take extra good care of it to keep it that way. I always get compliments on my hair and it makes me feel super confident.
haha thank goodness you got the thick hair!
My body give me 3 beautiful children. I would love to take my 10 year old girl to this movie. I want her to hold tight to the positive body image she has.
good one Robyn, I think thats really important for young girls to see it too!
Saying what I love is hard as I think I love and hate my body in equal quantities and how I feel has little to do with how I actually look. What I do love is that my body, as well as my personality has ‘shaped’ who I am and the more I learn to just accept it the more content and confident I am.
I think acceptance is the first step before love – and stop using the word “hate” – there is nothing worth ‘hating’ about your body!
I’ve been blessed with long legs and strong fingernails. Weird combo I know but not having to worry about breaking nails and helming my jeans is a blessing to me!
haha I’m so jealous of your fingernails! x
I love that I have ownership over my body to use as a canvas to communicate to the world how I feel and think through the expressions and gestures I can give to the clothing I can cover it in that help add dimension to my personality and make me uniquely me
