Three shows, two outfits, one goodie bag and no blisters! That’s a win in my book for Day One at New Zealand Fashion Week.
So just to explain a little more what I’m doing at Fashion Week. Traditionally, NZFW is showcasing NEXT Winter’s collections to fashion buyers and media from NZ and around the world. I’m going along to a few relevant shows to see what is coming up on the radar for YOU, my readers, next winter so I can get a heads up on the colours and silhouettes that are coming through so I know what I’m working with when shopping for personal styling clients, and when writing blog posts for you guys.
I’ve just chosen a couple of designers that I think you guys will love and will do my best to keep you informed on what they are doing!
So on that note, here are my highlights from Day One:
What I Wore
As always, clearly the most important part of the day (insert tongue firmly in cheek). Because Spring in Auckland is actually a lie (it was 4 degrees yesterday morning) I planned to wear one outfit in the day, when I could rely on the sun to warm me up, and then I reverted back to my standard 7 layers of clothing for the night show – here’s both looks:
A drop in temperature called for more layers (and the long walk from the car park called for more comfy shoes!)
The Shows
COOP by Trelise Cooper
COOP is the younger, funkier brand from NZ fashion goddess, Trelise Cooper. Clean, oversized shaped were complimented by bright oranges and pinks. One of the things I always love about any Trelise Cooper collection is there is something in there for everybody – literally – every body shape was covered. COOP is definitely a brand to watch if you want to get your hit of designer clothing, but with a fun, funky edge. (The sparkle shorts were my fave!)

Hailwood
The surprise of the night for me! I was expecting all denim, androgynous, curve un-friendly looks – but there were some A.MA.ZING pieces. Beautifully but coats, dresses with strategically placed draping and some divine fabrics. This is definitely not a label to discount if you want something beautiful and feminine.

Andrea Moore
Andrea Moore has been a favourite New Zealand designer of mine since I worked for a PR agency in Sydney that did her Australian PR almost 10 years ago now! Since coming to NZ, I’ve noticed the label if more colourful and fun and I’m becoming a real fangirl of Andrea Moore.
The biggest message for next Winter? COLOUR!!! I don’t think there was a single black garment on the runway at all. Bright orange, pink, and purple were abundant and even our beloved neon is still hanging around (but looking really classy matched with black).

The other stuff
There is always lots to see (and lots of people-watching to do)at Fashion Week – here are a few snap shots that sum up the rest of Day One…….
So Day Two today – I’m off to the New Zealand Wedding Bridal Collection show (The Boy looked at me in horror when I mentioned this show….) and then Trelise Cooper tonight! Stay tuned for the wrap of Day Two tomorrow…. now I just need to work out what I’m going to wear today….eek!!
