This is pretty much my go-to look (when I’m not breast-feeding…. don’t really feel like flashing my undies in public haha) but I know it can be a tricky one for some of you lovelies out there.

So when one of my readers asked for a blog on how to style ankle boots with dresses in different ways, I couldn’t wait to get the old tripod ‘n’ camera out and snap away some great examples.

I’ve got four different ways to rock your ankle boots back with dresses for our wintery/spring-ish weather and it starts with a good pair of ankle boots.

I like boots that are snug-fitting around my ankle, and that have an ‘all-day-heel” (that should be pretty self-explanatory… so you can wear them all day comfortably). The heel can help when you’re wearing a dress as it will elongate your leg, but you can totally rock any of these looks with flats too

So here are four different ways to style your fave dresses back with some great ankle boots…

1. Top and Tail

This is a really simple styling trick that works with practically ANYTHING in the middle…. just match your jacket and your shoes.

So when it comes to dresses + boots, just add a leather jacket if you want to wear a black shoe – the dress in the middle is almost a second thought.

This is a great way to really winter-ise a summer dress and works most of the year. This is probably my fave way to rock a dress and boots.

2. Midi is the way

A midi dress is a great way to showcase a fab pair of boots! The hem-line is made for an ankle boot!

I love the scoop of this dress too, it really draws focus to the boot.

If you’re worried about the length of a midi, then go for as high a heel as you’re comfortable in, again – it will lengthen your leg.

3. Bare it All

Come on, it’s not THAT cold! Once the sun is out, it’s lovely so you can bare a little skin.

If you’re legs haven’t seen the light of day for a few months (you’re in good company there…) just whip out some fake tan, Little Honey NZ is my go-to brand, and your legs will have that nice summer glow in no time!

4. Black to Basics.

The good old black tights and ankle boots look is definitely still relevant.

Styling your dress like this is not only warmer for winter (add merino socks or fleece-lined tights for extra warmth), but the black on black of the tights and ankle boots will help elongate your leg and make you look taller. (“Don’t make my legs looks longer” said no one ever!).

Opaque (so not see-through) tights are the best for this look, and here’s a little tip for those taller-than-the-average-bear ladies – I’m wearing footless tights, with the ankle boots coming up over the join – no more crotch of the tights half way down my legs by the end of the day!
