Every now and then a movie comes along that seems to jump off the cinema screen and into our wardrobes. Breakfast at Tiffany’s gave us the Little Black Dress, Carrie Bradshaw made it ok to wear tutus, and black bras under white tops (ok it’s a TV show but you know what I mean) and queen bi-atch Miranda Priestly told Anne Hathaway’s character Andy (and the rest of us) how a select few choose what the rest of us wear in The Devil Wears Prada (not to mention those knee high Chanel boots – dreamy!)
The lastest style-defining film hit our screens when Baz Lurman’s The Great Gatsby opened last week. One word. DAZZLING! I LOVED it! It was every bit as sparkling, intense and thought-provoking as I expected – there were even a few cool cameos from some famous faces!
But I digress – the fashion….. *sigh* it was divine – set in the glitz and glamour of 1920’s Long Island, the frocks had more dazzle than Channing Tatum’s smile and the suits, oh the suits! Sharper than Rosie O’Donnell’s tounge (and waaaaaay classier for that matter).
So the GOOD NEWS for us, is that we can all get a little bit of the Gatsby fashion in our own wardrobes too.
Here are a few of my favourite pieces that are in the stores at the moment that will add a little Gatsby-glamour to your look this winter:
Gatsby’s love interest, the beautiful Daisy Buchanan (played by the stunning Carrie Mulligan) has all the fun! From the custom-made Tiffany & Co head piece to the amazing drop-crystal embellished dress, she certainly gets to wear the goods!
Or for something a little more mysterious, channel the sexy Jordan (played by Aussie newcomer, Elizabeth Debicki). Complete the look with blood red nails and vamp-like lips.
Not inspired enough yet? Here are some more picks to get your feeling all things Gatsby (nice diamond ring don’t you think? Funny how Daisy’s ring in the movie looks EXACTLY like the engagement ring I like….. and The Boy totally picked up on it too, he’s learning)
So what’s your Gatsby style? Will it be sequins, or felt and feathers? I’ve got my eye on those gorgeous Joanne Mercer shoes (oh and that diamond ring would be a bit of alright too)

Oh and black sequins for me thanks!
I do love a cuff! … That ring is very similar to my Great Grandmother’s 1920’s engagement ring… Pave set instead of the big stone in the middle but still just as gorgeous… It would never date Cait! Sorry to hear about yours though Pearl.
How good are cuffs!! And a bit of black sequin can’t go astray xx
I’m yet to go see ‘The Great Gatsby’ but after this post I really want to go to the movies! The Boohoo sequined shorts are gorgeous and I love that ring as well (which actually looks very similar to my now lost engagement ring *snif*). Thanks for sharing Cait!
oh what!?!?!!?! when did it get lost!!!?! Oh, you will LOVE Gatsby! It’s awesome xx
I lost it just before we moved house which really sucks…. Oh well, I guess that means a bigger diamond down the track lol Can’t wait for the great Gatsby x
