I’ve had an interesting relationship with my skin over the years.
Teenage acne into my 20’s, to the point where I would always cover my back and arms, and once, when I answered the door, my mum’s friend thought I had the chicken pox because my face had flared up so badly!
Years on the contraceptive pill helped manage it, but when I came off it, it started back up again.
It wasn’t until pregnancy that it finally seemed to calm down, I think it was mostly hormone-related, so having babies seemed to regulate my hormones, and therefore my skin.
Add onto the acne, the fact I had super-oily skin too. So, for years I would use harsh cleansers and toners that stripped my skin. I thought the “squeaky clean” feeling was a good one, and moisturise? No way! Why would I add more oily to my face?
Little did I know that by stripping my natural oils, I was making my skin over-produce the oil and add to the problem….
Fast-forward to my 40s, and not only have I been paying more attention, and investing in my everyday makeup (you can read more on that here) I’ve also been really showing some love (and the right oils) to my skin care routine.
THE FACIAL
When the lovely Catherine, founder of The Skin Wardrobe, based in Auckland, invited me to come in for a glorious new facial service she’s offering in The Skin Studio, her gorgeous Grey Lynn premises, how could I say no! The facials are given by their new in-house certified and trained skin therapist. I chose the Peel and Glow Pro Ageing Facial from Scandinavian high performance skincare brand Lernberger Stafsing.
The treatment was a peaceful and divine as you’d expect, but what really impressed me was the condition of my skin after the facial, It was literally glowing – for days!
THE ON-GOING CARE
So, with my glowing skin, Catherine and I took the opportunity to look at an ongoing skincare routine that would not only suit my busy lifestyle as a mumma and business owner, but would also be kind to my maturing, yet still oily, skin.
She is one of the most knowledge people I’ve met when it comes to skincare, Catherine has worked incredibly hard to find brands that deliver and stand the test of time. She offers 1:1 consultations at The Skin Wardrobe studio (skincare or makeup) to help you find the right routine for your individual skin needs, as she did with me.
I couldn’t wait to share it with you…
Here’s what I use, day and night, and it REALLY only takes less than 5 minutes (because you know how hectic my life is haha!)
- Lernberger Stafsing Gel Cleanser $60
- Common Clouds Gentle Exfoliating Toner $32
- Lernberger Stafsing Moisture Boost Serum $95
- Lernberger Stafsing Eye Cream $87
- Common Clouds Daily Mattifying Face Cream $36 (day time)
- Lernberger Stafsing Night Cream $100 (night time)
- Lernberger Stafsing Overnight Retinol Mask $100 (once a week)
I simply apply it in that order, either straight after my shower in the morning, and before bed in the evenings. I’ve been using it for just over 3 weeks now and I can honestly say my skin has never felt better.
OVERALL EXPERIENCE
What I truly love about these products, and everything Catherine from The Skin Wardrobe recommends, is that they genuinely do what they say they are going to do: pro-ageing and clear glowing skin without needing a million products or spending a million dollars!
