Welcome to The Winter Essentials Series on Chasing Cait. Over the next 5 weeks we are going to talk about the 5 items that I think everyone should have in their Winter Wardrobe (one each week), not matter what your body shape, budget or lifestyle.[line]

Winter essentials series - the winter dress.jpgIf you are a regular reader of the blog, you would know that I’m a massive fan of buying clothes that have VERSATILITY – clothes that you can dress up, or down, depending on the situation.

As you may know, I’m not normally a fan of telling individuals what their ‘wardrobe essentials’ should be, as I think it really depends on a couple of factors – body shape, lifestyle, budget and style personality so I’m kinda contradicting myself here….. BUT in my defence, I think these 5 pieces really do work for everyone and I’m going to spend the next week explaining HOW!

So let’s kick off with one you might not expect, but I”m going to show you why they are so useful!

The Winter Dress

So why, all of a sudden when the temperature drops, do we all reach for pants? Jeans in particular? You know most jeans are just made from cotton right? Sot not that warm!

The Winter Dress.jpg

A winter dress will give you a different look through winter to mix in with all those pants – I think it’s important to change up your outfits, shop your OWN wardrobe and get the most out of what you’ve got!

What makes a winter dress?

The fabric – normally a winter dress is a little thicker, most of the time it’s a Ponte (read this post for more info on what Ponte is). Obviously the thicker fabric is generally going to keep your warmer!

Longer sleeves – Again, seems like another no-brainer, but it really does make a difference. If you can find a dress with a longer sleeve, you don’t have to add too many layers underneath to keep warm (an awesome merino cami like THIS one will suffice) therefore taking away a bulky layer.

The ability to wear it with opaque tights – rather than trying to make a light, floaty summer dress winter-appropriate buy wearing it with tights, why not wear a dress that ACTUALLY works, and looks more seasonally appropriate? I actually am more likely to wear a shorter dress in winter BECAUSE of the tight factor – you don’t have to worry so much about the exposed leg because the tights (or THICK leggings) will hide a multitude of sins so shorter is almost better I think.

Chasing Cait Recommends……..

Here are just a few of the great winter dresses that are around at the moment (the Decjuba one is my personal FAVE! I’ve been waiting for it to hit stores for ages – and I grabbed it the day it did! Cashmere knit + those sleeves! Dreamy!)

One: Two: Three:

One: Seed Heritage long sleeve knit dress $99.95 (aus) Two: Decjuba “hidden gem’ knit dress $139.95 (aus) Three: Sacha Drake ‘rivi’ long sleeve dress $219 (aus)

So essential number one is done – do you agree? What is YOUR winter essential? Stay tuned, it might make the list next week!

Until next time,
In Love & Style Always,
Cait xoxo
