If you were born in the late 70’s / early 80’s you will remember neon the first time around….. STOP! (collaborate and listen…. sorry, couldn’t help myself) Please don’t run screaming from your computer screen…. it’s ok! Neon is back in fashion.

No more scrunchies, or bike shorts attached to skirts (K. Smith you KNOW what I am talking about!), this time neon is making a statement mostly on our nails, our feet or around our wrists – but don’t let me stop you wearing it in full force if you are game!

As always, Pinterest is a constant source of fashion inspiration… thank you Pinterest

Still not convinced? (and having flashbacks of dancing around the living room to Wham! …….No? must just be me then) Here are 5 ways to add a little neon back into your life in a fun, 80’s-proof, fashion-forward way!

1. Glassons iPhone case $7.99 (NZD)click here to buy

Glassons Patent iPhone case $7.99

Start small – if you can’t see yourself wearing neon, let your iPhone rock the look. It’s cheap and cheerful, which means you can throw it away at the end of the season if you want to.

2. OPI nail colour – Did It On ‘Em (available at most nail salons)

OPI nail colour – Go Get Em

OK, we are slowing making it closer to you actually wearing neon….. A pop nail is always a great way to feel like you are on-trend without having to step too far outside your comfort zone or spend too much money! This colour looks better with a tan so if you want to rock it in winter, pull out the fake bake first.

3. ASOS skater dress with contrast sleeve $25.10 (NZD)click here to buy

Asos skater dress with contrast sleeve $35.10

Now we are starting to sneak some neon into your look. Contrasting the bright yellow with a deep navy takes some of the power out of the neon colour and gives it a more sophisticated look. The other colour that neon yellow works really well with is a neutral cream or linen colour

4. Dotti Limelight blazer $79.95 (AUS)click here to buy

Dotti Limelight Blazer $79.95

Ok, now we’re talking! This hot blazer is neon at it’s best! (and the colour is more fluro in real life…. trust me, I’ve tried it on… several times). As always, it’s about combining something on trend (the colour) with something classic (the cut of the blazer) to create a great piece that won’t make you feel like a fashion victim…. love this look!

5. Etsy necklace bib approx $90 NZDclick here to buy

Esty neon bib necklace

I just need to start by saying you better get in QUICK if you like this because it have just zoomed to number 1 on my wish list! How amazing is this piece! I love the combination of colours – the turquoise seems to tone down the neon, giving the look a more sophisticated colour palette. I am imagining this in the colder months with a black blazer, black skinny pants and hot neon pumps… and then rocking it in summer over a stark, white maxi dress and neutral sandals…… I think I’m in love……

See? That wasn’t as scary as you thought was it? They say (I’m not quite sure who they is but apparently they say a lot of things….) that fashion works in cycles and it looks like the 80’s have come around again….. will you give neon a go this time around?
