I have a theory. There are two types of people in the world. Those who can’t get enough makeup, and those who have the same 3 things they use over and over again (probably well past their used-by date) and never want to branch out (sound familiar?)
Well my loves, I’ve got something that you need no matter which group you fall into. Presenting this week’s Friday Fave Find: The Essential Brush Set from Eleanor Dorn Makeup.
GET THE BRUSHES: The Essential Brush Set from Eleanor Dorn Makeup $145
Who is Eleanor Dorn: Eleanor is an Auckland-based makeup artist with a mission to show women that makeup can be easy and fun to use everyday (sound familiar? She is my people!). Eleanor created a range of brushes (she has a whole makeup collection coming soon too!) to give her clients a good quality product they could use that she really believes in!
Eleanor also runs 1-on-1 makeup lessons (going through your makeup bag and helping you work out how to use your products effectively, and getting the makeup looks you want) and group workshops, teaching you the basics of everyday makeup. More info on both these options (and more) on her website.
What they are: This amazing brush set will totally set you up if your makeup bag needs a complete overhaul – you have all the basics from a foundation brush, through to a brush to tame your brows.
But if, like me, you collect things (mainly makeup things) then I can’t recommend this set highly enough!
You can never have too many good brushes, and I’ve definitely found that having the right tools to do my makeup has made it not only easier, but it gives a more polished and finished look (this is coming from the girl that used to own one eyeshadow brush and used it to apply every colour. Apparently, that’s not what you’re supposed to do haha).
What you get: Here’s the whole set….
The Essential Brush Set from Eleanor Dorn Makeup $145 (valued at $217) l-r :Blush Brush | Angled Powder Brush | Powder Brush | Kabuki Brush | Blending Brush | Precision Crease Brush | Medium Fluff Brush | Small Fluff Brush | Angled Liner Brush | Brow Brush/
Why they are awesome: This wee collection are Eleanor’s personal picks for all the essential brushes you need to get a great face of makeup. They are made from super-high quality (and super-soft) brush hairs to ensure that you get the looks you want really easily, and don’t we love anything that makes life easier?

Wow what an amazing set of brushes. For me definitely would be the foundation brush, once the canvas is set and ready to go all else falls into place. Thanks for sharing Cait and Eleanor
The angled powder brush, of course! Those things are weapons of mass seduction. When made well (like these) and in the right hands (like mine), they can do powerful things, like, create cheekbones where there were none and give me a chin where my genetics failed me!! Like a magic wand, but less boy magician like, if you get my drift.
I’d get the most use out of the small fluff brush. I love blending eye shadow, but I currently use either my fingers or the cheap brushes that come with the product. Think finger painting from primary school days — that’s what I imagine I’m doing on my eyes! My new friend small fluff brush would help me “graduate” and would go with me everywhere – on holidays, special events, you name it. My besties are always there for me, and I could use a new friend to help me with blending. A bestie can be your make up brush, right? With “lil fluffy”, I see many a happy day with her by my side. See, I’ve already even given her a nickname!
CONGRATS you’ve won!!! Anyone that gives her makeup brushes a name deserves a new one in my book haha!
Shoot me an email with your full name, postal address and I’ll get your full brush set off to you! YAY!!
Hooray, thanks so so much Caitlin (and Eleanor Dorn)! There were so many amazing entries here which I loved reading and could relate to as well. We truly are all together in beauty! xx
100% the Kabuki Brush….I have one that I’ve used for months, actually probably over 2x years. It’s so good and gives a nice even coverage for my mineral foundation which I apply daily but I can’t bring myself to throw it out in fear that a new one will be as “nice”. I follow Eleanor and I know she wouldn’t put her name to something she did not use and like herself. Would love to own this set and do an overhaul of my current makeup bag.
Precision Crease Brush, with the age lines starting to appear (or is that too many hours in the sun?) I need a detailed brush to really perfect the routine actions of hiding those pesky wrinkles 🙂
The blush brush because I am most definitely in the “use the same three products camp” and currently apply my blusher with my fingers!! Feeling inspired to branch out after reading this blog post though!
The kabuki brush, I love how they feel, they give amazing natural coverage and are the best mineral applicators around, plus they have a cool name.
My last reply didn’t format properly so it wound up looking very weird. The fav brush I would absolutely love would be the Precision Crease Brush. I would benefit from this as I’m using just a normal eyeshadow brush which when dipped into a dark colour leaves a smudge that reaches up to my brow bone, not a good luck for anyone let alone a woman of middle age. Given I don’t want to end up looking like someone off the “Real Housewives of….” series, I think a Precision Crease Brush may just save me from being mistakenly approached by some reality TV producer who thinks I have leopardskin jumpsuit in my wardrobe and a tonne of issues that need to be aired on TV so please, please, please save me from monochromatic hell!!!!!!!
ooh the blush brush – I’m using some crappy clumped together thing that look like it’s come from a ferral donkey’s hind. I need some blush brush love!
The Blush Brush! The one I use at the moment drops random black hairs on my face. Not a good look!
I am in desperate need of a new foundation brush- that kabuki brush would be my new bff!
The brow brush, for sure! Even though they’re dealt to regularly (along with all the other jungle like areas), my unruly bushy babies need a brush to bring them back to civilisation!
Brow brush! Apparently your eyebrows frame your face…& if that’s the case then I need a new picture framer! I’m 40…so hoping well groomed eyebrows using the Eleanor Dorn eyebrow brush will ensure I get asked for ID next time I’m buying wine! (Although I’ll happily take someone picking me for 38 😊😊😊) xxx
I would love them all, but the powder brush especially! My husband works with computers and too my old brushes to clean the components and now I dont have any
The precision crease brush! I have a couple of brush sets as it is, but I haven’t seen an angled blending brush before! I have a couple of the straight up fluffy blending brushes but I think the Eleanor Dorn one will be much more effective for that seamless transition we all want!
Hands down the Percision Crease Brush…my under area with the wrinkles/fine lines/character lines/laughter lines…those beautiful wrinkles need some help with blending…the point on the the percision brush looks perfect to blend concealer…currently using my index finger…xxx
I would use the angled powder brush the most….great for blending. I had aways used the sponge that comes with powdery foundations up until about 6mths ago…it would be great to own a high quality brush like this.
I’m thinking the blush brush – it’s not cool to be over 40 and have a disintegrating brush that leaves black hairs on your face LOL…. Time to join the grown ups 😉
Powder brush for sure! To get that final Matt finish. This set looks amazing and a must for the make up collection. I def fall into the ‘been using same brushes for decades’ camp :o(
And by angled Powder Brush, I actually meant Powder Brush – too early in the morning for me – clearly!!
The kabuki brush would be so, so useful for dusting on my face powder. Having a kabuki with a long handle for use at him would be a treat- stop me dropping it when I use it !
My choice would be the angled powder brush – I’ve thought about it quite a bit and was tossing up between that or the eye brushes…. but I think the powder brush because I use powder everyday over my foundation, to set it, I don’t always put on eyeshadow.my current brush leaves lovely short, thick black hairs all over my face (it’s moulting) and if I don’t notice them, I walk around looking like I’m growing random whiskers!
I want a foundation brush with a good foundation to go with it 🙂 I just use powder and it doesn’t give me as much cover as I sometimes want /need
The precision crease brush, because I haven’t changed my eye style in years!! Maybe with some new brushes I’d be inspired 😂😂😂
Hi there,
im a blend freak, I LOVE blending brushes and will tell everyone who will listen when I find one I like.
I claim blending as my cardio.
no hard lines here gurrrrl *snap*
I would love this set and it would be definitely well used xxxx please
The brow brush for sure! My current brow brush is sticking my finger in my mouth & trying to brush them into shape that way ha ha I am so stylish 😂
The brush I’d get the most use out of is the brow brush for sure! I have thin, wispy little eyebrows and this brush would help me get them into place and make them tidy and neat, along with some amazing product for eyebrows (of which I don’t know what that is yet, haha)!
I’m totes with you! I LOVE a good brow brush (mine are also of the thin, whispy persuasion)
The precision crease brush, this has to be a million times better than the cheapie I brought where the brush part keeps falling off the handle!!
haha sounds like it would be!! thanks for entering Nicky 🙂
The blush brush!! You know that little angled flat brush that comes with (mostly cheaper) blushes? That’s how it sits on my face, a perfectly angled strip! An excellent quality blush brush will make me look like the “natural” beauty I’m meant to be….
haha yeah I totes know the type – this one is WAAAAAAAY better!!! good luck in the comp!
My pick would be the precision crease brush which would supersede the massive eyeshadow brush I have now which when you put the crease colour onto the brush, it reaches beyond the crease spreading dark purple right sctoss my eye and up to my brow bone. I look like a middle aged drag queen until I exhaust my supply of make up remover pads removing the offensive application! Then when I go to try again, trust me there is no again which is why I go out with one dimensional, monicoloured eyes! Oh to have a range of colour on my lids again!!!!
