Yes, even you. I want NO excuses! I’m going to give you all my stylists secrets on how to rock a body con (just a fancy word for ‘tight-fitting”) dress, no matter what your shape or size!
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m far away from having the perfect body, but the one I do have is the only one I’ve got. And I realised a long time ago, the way to make the most of my body was to play up to my good bits! You know BODY-CON stands for BODY CONFIDENCE right? So show that confidence!!
A body-con dress is an easy way to show off your amazing shape (no matter what it is) and for me, I always actually feel slimmer in a dress that defines my shape, as opposed to when I cover up (particularly with the set of curves I have).
So want in on my secrets to pulling of the body con dress? Here they are;
1. Stripes or Print act as camouflage
And don’t be scared of the horizontal stripe! It’s actually your friend. The stripes help hide any wee lumps and bumps. Here are a few striped, and textured options that I’m loving right now.
SHOP THE BODYCON (l-r): CottonOn Midi dress $24.95 (I have this in a few colours!) | Dorothy Perkins midi dress from The Iconic $59.95 | Asos polka dot dress $62.00 | Witchery knit dress $169.90
Want a bit of extra coverage? Add a jacket, or a necklace, or both. you’ll often see me doing that with my body-con frocks, it’s a great way to get that extra tummy protection whilst still showing off your gorgeous shape.
2. Look for a supportive fabric
The thing I love about these body-con dresses is that they have STRETCH! Which means that they fit to your shape, rather than you having to fit into it.
A stretch fabric that is a little thicker is going to give you more support too – so look for thick, stretchy fabrics and you’ll feel awesome
3. The right undies make a difference.
Now I’m NOT talking your neck-to-knee Spanx here (I know you like doing things like eating, and laughing, and peeing and breathing). BUT consider the undies (and bra) you are wearing underneath.
Bra “n” Things smooth comfort undies $18.99 & Nine to Five tee shirt bra $54.99
As well as the Bras ‘n’ Things options above, you can also try Lyric from Farmers here in NZ, or Target in Aussie do some of my faves too (in fact, I often stock up when I’m back)
Stop the undie-lines and you’ve solved 80% of the problem!
3. OWN it!
Confidence is always going to be the MOST attractive thing you can wear. If yo think you look good, then you’ll look good. And to be honest, what anyone else thinks about what you’re wearing is not your business anyway. So OWN this style of dress, you look amazing remember!
If I can do it, so can you! So are you in?
Until Next Time, In Love & Style Always,
Congrats Cait on all your fabulous blogs. Loving following your journey. You are a great role model to all of us who have insecurities about our shape. You are real, honest and genuine. Love your work 🙂
awwww thanks lady! that means a lot from a woman on an amazing journey herself! xx
I’m concerned about the length of the body-con dresses – I’m 160cm tall, size 10/12 in a top and a size 14 in bottoms so I’m worried that type of dress wouldn’t suit me given that I’m vertically challenged. What do you think? Could I rock a body-con dress?
Hey Tracy – there are heaps of different lengths so that shouldn’t be a problem. In fact, having a MORE fitted dress will make you look taller if anything! Think about how short you feel in a full skirt, there is too much fabric for your frame. Give one a go! (and if you still feel smaller, pop a wedge on with it) xx
I’m still not sure … have seen a clingy, stripey dress in Storm that I LOVE and it didn’t even look as bad as I thought it would. And when I wrapped a denim shirt around my waist (been seeing a bit of that around lately) it looked pretty cool (& covered my bum/tum/thighs). BUT, do I want to have to take a shirt everywhere with me over summer??
you can do it Julie! Start off wearing the shirt, the work up to going without! Just find the right undies to support said tum, thighs and bum – but at the same time, own them! stop hiding and start loving all your bits xx
🙂
