Look, I’m going to be honest with you, exercise is not currently high on my list of priorities right now.

Three kids in five years, running my own business, oh and a global pandemic thrown in – I’ve had a few things on my mind.

Two things that are high on my priority list though, are the following two concepts;

  • when you look good you feel good (and vice versa)
  • and dopamine dressing (using colourful, fun clothes to lift your mood).

So when the Lorna Jane team reached out and asked if I wanted to test-run some pieces from their myriad of bright and colourful activewear, it seemed like as good a time as any to renew my interest in moving my body, plus play with some fun colour combinations and see if they motivate me more to exercise (they’ve also given me a special 20% off code for you, so keep reading!)

Fit, Function and Fashion

“I love your tights”

“Thanks! They have pockets”

After decades of women asking for pockets in dresses, Lorna Jane has taken it to the next level and put pockets in their tights. (I mean, you can literally shop their “Phone Pockets” Collection here)

This small detail is a game-changer for me, just the simple act of being able to store my phone, house key etc makes the thought of going for a walk around the block more inviting.

Dopamine-Dress yourself active

A massive motivator for me to exercise is what I’m wearing, and I know that might sound shallow to some, but if I feel dressed for the part, I feel more capable. You feel me?

So let’s take the concept of Dopamine Dressing – using bright colours to make your brain zing and boost dopamine, much like other things that make you feel good.

Why not combine the power of dopamine, with those endorphins you get when you exercise, a double dose of happy!

I loved this combo of turquoise and lilac as soon as I saw it on the Lorna Jane website. It’s fresh and fun, and seeing these pieces at the end of my bed in the morning will certainly motivate me to get up and move more.

The Details:

Stomach Support Zip Phone Pocket Ankle Biter Leggings in Aqua Buzz Size L

I mean, the name says it all. Stomach support (3 kids later, check!), and ZIP. PHONE. POCKET people!

I always love the thickness of Lorna Jane tights too, no worries about going see-through when you’re doing your downward dog with these!

Rebound Sports Bra in Aqua Buzz size L

High support, adjustable straps and removable padding, again, the team at Lorna Jane have thought as much about function as they have about form when it comes to their sports bras.

I’m not normally confident enough to just wear a set like this on its own (again, 3 kids in 5 years) BUT I do love the support and fit of this set, so I actually felt really good wearing it.

Elevate Active Eco Rib Tank in Soft Lilac size L

I mean, how could I resist the colour of this tank combined with the aqua of the tights and bra set, plus the tank is made from 100% recycled polyester.

A great layering piece over your activewear, the drop armhole is designed to move with you as you exercise.

SIZE AND FIT:

I’m a standard size 12, and I’m wearing an L in all three pieces.

I could probably fit into an M in the tights and tank, but I’m also 175cm tall so I do like to have the extra room in the leg.

As a DD cup, I find the L in the sports bras have the best coverage.

Lorna Jane is available in sizes XXS (6) – XXL (18) depending on how you like things to fit.
