Welcome to post two of Accessories Week! Today’s topic is……

How to use prints to dictate your accessories

Prints are always a fun way to get into fashion – and with each new season there is certainly a new series of prints to get into! (Fruit anyone? Apparently Prada’s doing it so it must be cool!)

COLOUR and PRINT

If you want to accessorize on top of prints, use the colours in the print as a guide to what colour accessories to use.  I always love finding the smallest detail of colour in a print and then using it to accessorize!  Here is an example of how you can pull several different colours from the same print. (This applies also to other clothes you are match with a print, not just an accessory)

The same print, matched with 4 different colours - all of which are IN the print

And here is how it works when it comes to accessories – the teal in the ring matches the teal in the pants, but also the white and tan of the shoes also work back with the colours in the pants too!

The other way to accessorize with print, especially if there are only two colours in the print, is to use a contrast colour. A CONTRAST COLOUR is a colour opposite to the original colour on the colour wheel…. they are total opposites, so they will look amazing against each other and they clash – but in a good way!

This is a typical colour wheel - see how

This is a typical colour wheel – see how orange and blue are on the opposite sides of the wheel? The next picture shows an orange print, with a blue necklace! Genius!

Again, here’s the theory in action!

I'm gonna let you finish, but aqua blue and orange are one of my fave combos of all time

NEUTRALS and PRINT

The other great way to accessorize print it with neutral accessories (sometimes TOO much colour can make you feel like a clown…. did I just say that?!). You can use a metallic, a bone or beige, or a tan.

Tan is a great way to make an outfit look more casual – a great pair of tan wedges and a cool tan belt should be staples in everyone’s wardrobe!

Here’s how it works in practice.

Tan accessories are wardrobe MUST HAVES! They match almost anything! Especially prints!

See? It’s not that scary at all! Today’s homework is to go home and accessorize your prints!

I would love to see some pics on how you are doing that! Post them onto my Facebook page or tag #chasingcaitaccessories on Instagram or twitter!

Happy accessorizing!
