Can you feel the slight chill in the air? I can! (Gimme a break, I’m from Queensland OK? Anything under 20 degrees is cold!)

Even though the sun is still shining bright and warm during the day (here is Auckland anyway), Autumn is just around the corner (try finding a summer frock in any of the stores right now! I know right?).

So being the awesomely kind person that I am, I’ve done all the hard yards, trekked the miles and miles of shopping centre isles to search out all the latest looks for this coming Autumn/Winter – here are my picks!

1. Metallics + embellishment

This is my top trend for this Autumn/Winter – in fact I love it so much, I wrote a whole post on it last week! (Read it here)

A bit of bling will brighten up a chilly start to the day! Pick your poison – we have sequins, studs and glitter all on offer.

The trick is to find pieces that have the embellishment in the RIGHT places, steer clear of anything sparkling in the places you are trying to distract from, and aim for the bling to draw attention to your best body attributes!

2. Oxblood, burgundy, wine

Whatever you want to call it (I still call it Maroon – I wore it for 12 years at school and I’m a Queenslander so it will always be maroon to me!). This time around though, I think we are doing it with a little more class – this is a GREAT alternative to black in Winter – my pick for THE colour of the season!

3. Texture – Brocade and Jacquard 

Say what? Brocade and Jacquard textures are what you think of when you think of Nana’s couch. No really, they are textured fabrics that have a rich, luxurious, embossed feel to them – and they are BIG this season! The fabric, by nature, is quite thick and structured so it will give you a lot of support when you are wearing it! (read: no lumps and bumps on show)

4. Luxe Leather

This is leather like you have never seen. It’s feminine, it’s soft and it’s subtle. Pieces using leather detail (sleeves, panels etc) are huge, and won’t break the bank (most are faux anyway). Look for pieces with feminine shapes (peplums) and fun colours (lavender, pink, coral etc) – nothing man-ish about this trend at all!

5. Monochrome

It’s just a fancy word for black and white really, but with the way the two tones are spliced together, you’ll look more like a fashionista and less like wait-staff.

Colour blocking (without the colour) is key! Big, bold statements of black and white strategically placed around the body to show off your shape is best. (stay tuned for upcoming posts on how to wear this trend specifically for YOUR shape)
