For a long time I’ve been saying that I wish I knew someone who could give my makeup bag a good once-over kinda the way I give people’s wardrobes the one-over. Well a couple of weeks ago at the Bobbi Brown event I attended, I mentioned this to the girls there and they told me they offer that exact service! Woohoo!!
So I hauled my makeup bag and all its goodies down to the Bobbi Brown Store at Britomart last week and the lovely Rachel (who looks HEAPS like Charlotte from Sex and the City just quietly), went to work on my bag.
How it worked:
I quickly went through my basic beauty routine with Rachel, showing her what I use each product for and how I apply it. She either gave each one a tick of approval, or gently steered me in the right direction with things I wasn’t doing quite right.
My bag mostly got the tick of approval which I was pleasantly surprised about!
As part of the service, the Bobbi Brown team member can show you how to try a new look, either with the makeup you already have, or with their products, which ever you like.
I got Rachel to show me how to do a day-time eye, without using my safe colours of brown and black. Instead we used gold and olive green! ooOOOoo! I even got my own cheat-sheet to take home so I could re-create the look (or purchase any of the products we used)
What I learnt:
Rachel ( and ALL the Bobbi Brown team) have oodles and oodles of knowledge about makeup and beauty, most of it right from the mouth of Bobbi herself. Here are just a couple of tips I picked up from Rachel.
~ Always go all the way from corner to corner with your eyeliner – it makes your eyes look bigger~
~Make sure you continue your bronzer down your neck (but not your foundation) – otherwise you end up with a lighter ‘triangle’ where the sun doesn’t get to as much. If you don’t your foundation can look too dark and make your head look like it’s ‘floating’!
~No matter how dark you apply your makeup on the top of your eyelid, ALWAYS go lighter on the bottom half – It opens up your eye. Wearing dark liner on the bottom of your eye (unless you are going a full smokey eye) can close your eye up and make you look older (we DEFS don’t want that!)~
My New Products:
So I did pick up a few new additions to my makeup bag on Rachel’s advice.
Eyeliner: Longwear Eye Pencil in “Hunter”. Lip Colour: Uber Pink “pink kiss” Eye Shadow (to use as brow filler) Bobbi’s Essentials in “Mahogany”. Brush: Angle Eye Brush
Can you do it too?
You absoul-frickin-lutely can! Just call or visit your local Bobbi Brown store or department store stand and ask for the MAKEUP BAG DETOX. The session should last about 45 mins and you need to make a booking. Find your nearest Bobbi Brown in Aus or NZ here.
Monday – Thursday it’s a complimentary offering, and Friday – Sunday it will set you back $90 – but that is ALL redeemable on product, which makes it WELL worth the money.
Does your makeup bag need a detox like mine did? Or are you super-orgainsed with your beauty routine (Amber Carroll I’m looking at you!). What is YOUR best makeup tip? I’d love to hear it – tell me in the comments below.
Until next time,
In Love & Style (and lippy) Always
Cait xoxo
