Hands up if you don’t want Summer to leave us just yet? I’m still hanging out to pop the bottle of Lindauer with my girlfriends on the back deck even Sunday arvo, but sadly the days are getting longer, and we are now popping the corks inside the house….
Yes, Autumn is well and truly on its way, and soon we’re going to have to pull out the jeans, sweaters and boots to keep warm.
But how do we navigate those in-between times, like now? Well in today’s post, I’m going to share with you some of my expert tips on how to transition your Summer Wardrobe into Autumn.
1. Use Light layers
Don’t brush off the merino just yet! But you can start adding a few light layers to your summer outfits to help transition into Autumn. Keep your summer frock going for another month or so with a long-line cardi, a lightweight anorak or a cute denim jacket for that little extra warmth.
Here’s how I’d rock a summer dress in this trans-seasonal weather….
SHOP THE LOOK: Dress – WildPair basics dress $59.90 | Anorak – Jeanswest $99.95 | Boots – Mollini boots from StyleTread | Cardigan – Decjuba open cardi $129.95
The trick to remember with layering (especially at this time of year when the temperature could go either way on any given day) is to make sure that whatever you are wearing underneath the layers is good to go on its own. That is, don’t wear a fitted white singlet under a fine knit if you are worried about your tummy! Make sure that you can take off all your layers and still feel amazing in what you are wearing!
2. Add boots
Ankle boots are a great Autumn addition to your wardrobe, but you don’t have to wear them just with jeans or tights. Try wearing your ankle boots to a summery look to add that Autumn edge, like so…..
I like a lighter coloured boot if you are wearing it with your summer dresses (plus you can still show off your summer tan!). They will also transition through to winter with jeans (have a read of THIS POST I wrote the other week if you are unsure on how to wear ankle boot with jeans)
3. If in doubt, wear jeans
Jeans are most people’s fail-safe option for most of the year, but in this instance they are actually a great option!
It’s not hot enough for shorts anymore, but jumpers aren’t quite required yet – so why not try whipping out your fave pair of jeans with a summer top or singlet. Add sandals for a casual look, or heels for something a little more dressy.
Here is some jean-spiration from Pinterest to get that “Summer jeans” look you can wear now!
Jeans are actually just made of cotton, so despite what you might think, are not the best pants for the mids of Winter. But with all the lightweight options (like my fave Jeanswest Prima Denim ones) around, they are the perfect weight to be wearing now. Here are 3 of my top picks from Jeanswest
SHOP THE JEANS (l-r) Brigid skinny 7/8 Prima Denim jeans $130 | Briella skinny 7/8 Prima Denim jeans $130 | Karrie Curve Embracer skinny 7/8 Prima Denim jeans $130
So there you have a couple of quick ways to transition your Summer wardrobe to suit this Autumn weather that is fast approaching! Before we know it, we’ll be knee-high in coats and boots so make the most of the trans-seasonal weather while we have it!
