So as many of you know, clothes are kinda my thing. I mean, I buy them for a living! I’ve loved clothes (and shoes, how could we forget about the shoes) since I was a little girl, I’ve always had a keen interest in them…..but makeup? Sure, I wear it. Does that mean I really know much about it? Absolutely not! haha!

Having said that, one of the things I love about talking about makeup on the blog, is that I’m learning as I go. Any new tips and tricks (and cool products) I discover for my own life, I’ll share with you guys too – that way we can all learn together.

And one of the things I learnt about makeup recently is that I LOVE Bobbi Brown.

Just a few of the gorgeous goodies in the new collections coming soon

So this recent obsession has a little bit to do with the fact that I went along to the media preview of 3 of Bobbi’s latest collections (thanks Jess Carew from the Estee Lauder Companies for inviting me!), and a LOT to do with the fact that this makeup is awesome.

At last weeks preview, Director of Artistry and Education for Asia-Pacific, Kai Vinson talked us through three new collections that are hitting stores soon, PLUS gave us a live demo of how amazing some of the products are on one of the lovely Bobbi Brown Britomart stylists, Rachel.

So WHY is Bobbi Brown so awesome:

Bobbi (yes, she is an actually person) focuses on makeup that is simple, flattering and wearable. There are a few pop colours in new collections, but her staple, and her best sellers, are her neutrals and nudes – colours that enhance a woman’s natural beauty.

Bobbi believes that “makeup is a way for a woman to look and feel like herself, only prettier and more confident.” I LOVE that! She is all about positive messages and affirmations, as some of her new blushes show….

What’s coming:

There are LOTS of new and exciting things to look out for before the summer is out, but my fave for sure is these amazing Art Sticks! A vintage Bobbi Brown piece if you are old enough to remember, but she has brought them back for good!

They differ from other ‘colour crayons’ on the market because they have a much stronger matt finish. They are more of a lip stain than a gloss and can also be used as a cream blush! Versatility – check!

What I learned:

Two things come to mind that I leant – firstly, when using Bobbi Brown eye palettes, it’s important to ‘pat’ the colour onto your eye, not swipe or rub it on like most eye shadows.

Pat, don't swish or rub your eye colour onto your lid

This is because the amount of colour pigment in BB eye palettes are really dense, at a professional level (yet still available to us lackies!) so the concentration of colour is very high. By sweeping it on, you will spread the pigment all over your face! PAT it onto the lid, then use a blending brush to move the colour around – I LOVE it!

The second thing I learned is to always have some sort of STRUCTURE on your face. By this, Bobbi means that even the softest, most natural makeup look needs some definition otherwise you can risk looking washed out.

Bobbi says: Make sure your face always has some structure

This might be lining your eye (even though you might not be doing a full-on smokey eye), or give your brow some shape and depth by filling it in, or just add a pop of colour to your lips, even in a nude shade to give them some shape. I TOTALLY relate and see where she is coming from – best tip ever!

To find your nearest Bobbi Brown Store or Concession, click here. Or if you are in Auckland, make sure you visit the girls at the Britomart Store, New Zealand’s only stand-alone BB store! They are a joy to deal with (in fact, I’m thinking of getting my wedding makeup done there!)

So know you know a little more about one of my fave make-up brands, but I love to learn! Tell me about YOUR fave makeup brand in the comments below – I want to know.

Love & Style Always
