So I thought I’d start a new series of posts called Labels I Love. I thought it would be a fun was to share with you all some of the awesome labels that I have found in my travels, and explain why they are so good! And what better label to start with than my all time fave…. Sacha Drake.
Now as many of you know, I have a very personal history with this label – it is the main reason my wardrobe is so full for a start!! I was also one of the first members of staff when Sacha started this label almost 10 years ago now! I’ve made no secret of my personal connection with Sacha Drake on the blog, and I’m proud to have such a close association with this amazing label.
So here is a little bit more about Sacha Drake
Who:
Brisbane-based, Australian label Sacha Drake. All the garments are still made in Australia which I think is fantastic!
Where:
Flagship store in Paddington, Brisbane. Stocked in over 150 stockists in Aus, and sold online here.
Why:
Sacha’s main aim in design is to create clothes that fit and flatter women’s bodies (sound familiar?) Much of my passion for finding clothes that flatter women’s shape and size, no matter what that is, comes from Sacha herself. She gave me such an amazing education on how the right clothes can transform a woman!
Sacha uses a combination of incredibly flattering fabrics, simple and classic cuts and clever garment construction to make sure all her clothes skim over the places the need to hide and show off the good parts we ALL have!
Sacha’s secret is that she understands what women need! She is a 40-something (she is going to KILL me for telling you that), working mother. She has an amazing hourglass figure (although she jokes that after kids, she is more of an ‘hourglass with pear tendencies’) but she has also been a size 14 since she was about 15 years old! She understands the need for amazing, beautiful, feminine garments for women of ALL shapes and sizes because she wants them for herself,
What:
There are two collections under the Sacha Drake name – her main fashion collection, three ranges a year filled with stunning cocktail dresses, silk maxis in summer and great jersey work pieces.
She also has a basics range called STRETCH by Sacha Drake. This basics range was built around The Ultimate Black Dress (something you have to look into if you have not heard of it before!). It consists of pieces (mainly jersey) that can be worn for almost any occasion! The beauty of this range is that because of it’s simple, classic nature – you can wear the clothes to suit what YOU need them for!
There are about a MILLION (I don’t exaggerate) dresses from SACHA DRAKE that you should have in your wardrobe right now, but I thought I would just choose one this time to talk about….. The Iris Dress.
The Iris Dress: OK, I think this actually IS my favourite dress of all time. My own personal one is ALMOST NINE YEARS OLD! And it still looks as new as the day I bought it.
Similar to the Skinny Pant, this dress is constructed with panels that work WITH the body, not against it but adding bulk. There are no side seams, and no waist seam cutting across your tummy so the dress creates an amazing hourglass silhouette on any body.
The other amazing feature of the dress is the fabric, it’s a kind of textured jersey (its thicker than a normal jersey). Most jerseys would make this dress clingy and unflattering, but the textured fabric absorbs light, taking the focus off any little lumps and bumps that we want to hide – giving you an amazing shape without feeling super constricted by the fabric.
The combination of the removal of unflattering seams, the textured fabric and the absolutely divine cut (square sweetheart neckline, hem just below the knee, small cap sleeves) make this the perfect LBD!
So NOW do you understand why I harp on about this label so much? And for those of you that don’t live near a Sacha Drake store or stockist, never fear – you can buy online remember, and they will post to almost anywhere!…
Just tell ’em Caitlin sent you xx
