Lindauer Style Series LogoLast month, the team at Lindauer put the word out and asked YOU want you want to know from me. There were so many great questions so I’m going to do my best to answer a few of them in today’s blog.

These are all questions that get asked all the time so have a read, you might have been thinking the same thing!

ask the stylist

Question 1. Andrea asks….. Hi! Loving the 70s vibe for winter but not sure I can pull off a wide leg pant! What other subtle ways can you suggest for bringing this trend into the winter wardrobe? Thanks!

I often feel like I missed out on not living through 70’s fashion! (I was born in 1980) so I LOVE some of the shapes and styles that come out of the 70’s. Here are a few key pieces to add to your winter wardrobe to rock the 70’s look, without having to throwback to the flares.

That 70's vibe

SHOP THE LOOKS: Boohoo.com fringe kimono $35 | 2. CottonOn felt hat $19.95 | 3. boohoo.com fringe bag $35 | 4. Asos midi wrap dress $80

Here’s what I’d do – looking for anything with volume, fringing and  bright colour! There are so many distinct 70’s looks that it’s easy to find a style that suits your shape (particular if flares aren’t your thing).

I love the wrap dress for work, or throw the kimono on over jeans and a tee for the weekend.

Accessories are a great way to add a trend to your look without going over the top, fringing and felt are two big 70’s trends so work them into your existing wardrobe.

Question 2. Amber asks….. The stockings are already annoying my morning, on going ladders and what colour/thickness should be worn. Natural vs sheer black vs opaque any easy dos and don’ts?

So if ladders are a common occurrence in your morning routine, then make OPAQUE TIGHTS your friend. They are the ones that are thick enough not to see through them, but they are also thick enough to stop runners in them!

Use black opaque tights with ankle boots or closed-in pumps in winter, like you would a nude shoe in summer – to elongate your leg. The black tights + shoes create a long line up and down your leg, making it look longer.

Here are a few options – make special note of the fleece tights from Max! Extra warmth in the coldest months, genius I say!

tights for winter

SHOP THE TIGHTS (l-r): Max fleece-lined tights $20 or 2 for $30 | Decjuba seamless leggings $29.95 | Country Road plain opaque tights $29.90

Extra tip: if you have long legs, or hate the feeling of your stockings falling down all day, then wear a footless tight (like the ones from Decjuba above) and a black dress sock and tuck the top of the tights into the sock (below the line of your ankle boot). More flexibility in fit and length! (I do it almost every day)

Question 3. Jenna asks…… Hey there, I’d love get an idea of whats on trend this coming winter in terms of colour and fabric?

Well Jenna, there are two gorgeous colours that I’m seeing quite a lot of this winter! Burgundy and navy are everywhere!

Burgundy works great WITH black, and I love navy as an alternative to black for people that find black too draining. Here are a few pieces for winter in each.

Navy and burgundy

SHOP THE COLOURS (l-r): Glassons front pocket blouse $49.99 | Max navy and bronze shirt dress $139.95 | Witchery knit dress $149.90 | Country Road maxi cardi $149.25 (on sale)

When it comes to fabrics, there is lots of texture around this Winter, the rough-looking finishes and fabrics with flecks of opposing colour are plentiful, like these two….

texture tops

SHOP THE TOPS: Decjuba cowl neck knit $119.90 | Country Road textured blazer $126.75 (on sale)
