Now I know my husband is pretty stylish, but putting my trust in him so much as to DRESS me for three days over a weekend? Talk about a leap of faith haha!

Marriage is all about trust, understanding and honesty right? So of course, I have all the faith in the world that hubby is going to do good.

This fun idea came about when my gorgeous girlfriend Megan, from the wedding blog She Said Yes, released the follow up to her popular Little White Book (a FAB wedding planner). The follow up is called I Still Do.

I Still Do is a relationship journal, designed to help you increase communication, strengthen your love and understanding of each other (and each others love of shoes…. ehm) and reinforce your commitment to each other.

Now I know it sounds a bit serious, but I think that you can still have fun in your marriage while addressing serious issues. Hence this challenge.

Can I tell you, just finding the time and headspace to even get hubby to choose these outfits for me was a test of our communication and understanding haha! But we got there in the end….. Here is what he chose….

To a BBQ at a Friends House

So this was the first outfit. There were a few false starts. The first dress hubby chose wouldn’t fit around my waist (16 weeks pregnant here!). Then the jacket he chose to go over the dress didn’t match (he could tell by the look on my face).

But we finally agreed on this outfit;

I’m wearing: Just Jeans denim jacket | Portmans dress | Trenery wedges | necklace bought in Thailand

Hubby’s choice: “I’ve always loved this dress on Cait, and I’ve always loved that she can turn that rule about not wearing horizontal stripes on it’s head.”

The Verdict: It was a little more dressy that I would have chosen, but it’s definitely something I would wear so I think he did good!

To Go Shopping With a Styling Client.

This was totally a cheat outfit! I styled it for an upcoming blog and hubby must’ve remembered it cause he said “what about that cape outfit – wear that one for your client tomorrow!” (I think he was just being lazy and had enough of trawling through my wardrobe at this stage haha!)

I’m wearing: Portmans cape blazer | EziBuy dress | Ziera flat shoes | Madewell handbag | Jacqui E necklace

Hubby’s choice: “The cape blazer is hot, and it’s nice to see Cait’s pins out! I would’ve chosen heels with this, but who can pick from the 458 pairs of heels … sigh… plus she specifically asked for comfort, so flats it was.”

The Verdict: So not sure if it really counts as him dressing me, but to be honest, I’m glad he chose it! I probably wouldn’t have picked this combo for a client shop, but I felt professional and stylish so good work hubby!

To Hang With The Tiny Human

We hit the playground with Emmie on Sunday. It was a little cold and windy so I just reminded hubby of that (oh, and I also told him that I wanted to wear my Allbirds trainers haha!). He took his time putting this outfit together – the cap was his crowning glory (I’m not usually a cap girl).

I’m Wearing: MLB Pittsburgh Pirates cap courtesy of the hubby | Dotti printed bomber | EziBuy long tie tee | Decjuba jeans | Allbirds trainers (Emmie is wearing H&M bomber | Next jeans from EziBuy and Target boots just as an fyi – and daddy dressed her too!)

Hubby’s choice: “She’s always been able to make casual look cool, so it was pretty easy to get this one right. Choosing the cool long tie tee even surprised myself! I think a girl in a baseball cap on a weekend is super attractive, and she wasn’t expecting me to dress her from my own wardrobe! She was definitely the most stylish mum at the playground 🙂

The Verdict: Again, pleasantly surprised by the hubby’s choice. The hat was something I don’t do, but I felt kinda like a cool kid down at the playground haha.

What we learned about our relationship….

When I asked hubby this, straight out of his mouth, not a word of a lie…. “that you’re really annoying”.  He also mentioned that I have trouble letting go of control (I have NO idea what he’s talking about….)

But he also said that after a year of raising a tiny human, it made him look at me differently, and as his hot wife again (I may be para-phrasing) by reminded him of the clothes he thought I looked good in, rather than just his partner in nappy-changing and sleep deprivation.

I learnt that I if I need something specific (ie to be warm) I need to communicate that clearly, (and not just expect hubby to read my mind) which is something we all need to remember from time to time right ladies?

But I also learnt that by putting my trust in hubby, he didn’t let me down. I was more than happy to appear in public in all the looks he chose for me to wear so I think he did good don’t you agree?

The whole challenge was also a nice way to start a larger dialogue about our relationship and especially communication.

The last year has definitely been a life-changing one for us.

We met out first tiny human, then decided to start growing another one, so the challenge to use “I Still Do” as a way to reflect on our ever-changing partnership has been very timely (and that we live a busy lifestyle, which highlights that we do need to make more time for one another)

Want to give it a go in your relationship?

Megan has very kindly agreed to give Chasing Cait readers 10% off their copy of “I Still Do” (woot woot!) so just head over to the She Said Yes website and use the code ‘caitlin’ at the checkout.

It’s such a great thing to do with your partner on your first anniversary, or on your 50th! That’s the beauty of this little book – it’s timeless (like all great loves….awwww)

Now, If you’ll excuse me, I have to go and clean up my wardrobe…. hubby may have been great at picking out my clothes, but he’s rubbish at putting them away 😉

Until Next Time, In Love & Style Always,
