Big call, I know! But with the 85th Academy Awards only HOURS away, it’s got my thinking about red carpet frocks! This years red carpets have been a little underwhelming I think – everyone is playing it safe – so I thought I’d take a look at the frocks that REALLY wowed over the years before we see what hits the red carpet this afternoon!
Oh, and this post started out being a top 5 – but there are just too many amazing frocks so it turned into a top 10.
10. Kate Hudson. Versace. 2003
Not normally a fan of Versace, this one snuck in at number 10 – LOVE the shimmer of the beading, plus the cap sleeve really works with the deep plunging V-neck.
9. Heidi Klum. John Galliano. 2008
Striking colour, amazing neckline – red-carpet worthy for sure! Heidi’s style can be hit and miss at the best of times, but she certainly got it right this time.
8. Audrey Hepburn. 1954. Givenchy.
She is one of the most beautiful women ever to grace the world, this dress was the perfect complement to her hair (I wonder if Anne Hathaway will emulate this look this year!). This woman is divine. That is all.
7. Meryl Streep. Chris Marks. 2010.
See! Told you it was a bumper year! So elegant, so timeless, so divine!!!! Meryl can do on wrong. the draping and sleeve is age-appropriate, yet I think this dress would look incredible on a younger actress too! Do you love as much as me?
6. Michelle Williams. 2006. Vera Wang
LOVE this colour! And with the pop of intense lip colour and wispy hair, Michelle looks so fashion forward, yet elegant all at once!
5. Hillary Swank. Guy Larouche. 2005
LOVE a dress with a stunning back! The silhouette from the front of this navy dress is incredible, but when she turned around!? Whoa!! Obviously one of my all time faves!
4. Stacey Keibler. Marchesa. 2012
Well it goes without saying that this lady has the best accessory of all – Clooney on her arm, but I thought this dress was everything an Oscars dress is supposed to be! It’s a fantasy dress! Where else would you EVER get to wear it! In love. Completely.
3. Jennifer Lawrence. Calvin Klein. 2010.
This was THE year for the red carpet – there were so many amazing frocks, not in the least, this stunner! Jennifer Lawrence was a newcomer at this point, but her dress definitely put her in the spotlight! Her hair was amazing and complimented the simplicity of the dress perfectly!
2. Gwyneth Paltrow. Tom Ford. 2010.
Who wears a cape on the Oscars red carpet?!?! well Gwyneth did, and she NAILED it! So sleek, so sophisticated. I was actually jumping on the couch Tom-Cruise style when I saw this…. and yet again, the year was 2010 – THE year of the frock.
1. Mila Kunis. Elie Saab. 2010.
THE year. THE dress. THE end.
Phew! That was SOOOOOO much harder than I thought!!! Who did I miss? Anyone your don’t agree with? Are you excited about the red carpet?? I can’t wait! Stay tuned for my best dressed pics from THIS year coming soon!
