Bight lippy is something that took me a while to try (weird fixation with the shape of my lips and thinking dark lippy made them smaller – got over it – bygones), but boy I’m glad I did!
A bright lippy can really lift your face, your mood and even your whole outfit! Especially when you find one you love – you can just whip it on when you’re feeling a little flat and you know you’ll look and feel a million bucks!
So I’ve done a little bit of homework for you and found my TOP 5 bright lippies for 2014.
Now clearly some of these colours work with my skintone, but maybe won’t work with yours, but this is just a starting point! Most brands have amazing staff that can help you find exactly the right colour for you – use this as a guide.
NUMBER 5
Estée Lauder Pure Colour Envy Shine Sculpting Lipstick in Pink Dragon RRP $59
Now don’t shoot me but this isn’t available until next year (April 6th from Estée Lauder counters) but it’s one to watch out for! The colour is sheer, but still strong. The lipstick hydrates your lips nicely and doesn’t feel sticky or messy.
It stays on quite nicely and because it isn’t REALLY intense you don’t notice as much when it wears off.
A GREAT everyday option! There are heaps of other colours to choose from – highly recommended!
NUMBER 4
Smashbox Be Legendary Longwear Lip Lacquer in Knockout RRP $50Â
Wow! This lip lacquer certainly packs a punch! Bright and bold is the name of the game! I love the colour and shine but probably wouldn’t wear it all day everyday – perfect for a special occasion.
What’s awesome about this product is that it is built to start off as a high-shine lacquer then adjusts to a stain after wearing it for a while. I love how it looks once I wiped it off too! (bottom pic) Available at all Smashbox counters and online: www.smashboxcosmetics.co.nz
NUMBER 3
FaceMe Luxury matte lipstick in Julia RRP $29
Not SUPER bright, but still a bold lip colour (for me anyway!) This gorgeous mauve tone is a great everyday colour for when you’re not feeling the pinks and reds.
It’s staying power is one of my favourite things about it! FaceMe goes on easily, and isn’t as drying as some matte lippies can be.
This lippy is definitely on permanent rotation in my Summer beauty routine! Get it online at FaceMeMakeup.com
NUMBER 2
Sisley Hydrating Long Lasting Lipstick in Geisha Red (L25) RRP $80
This red lipstick is definitely the most expensive I’ve bought but it’s INCREDIBLE! And totally worth the price for me. I actually bought it to wear to my bridal shower in Brisbane earlier in the year and I was NOT disappointed!
I applied it with a nude lip liner underneath to make sure it didn’t bleed (you could also use a red lipliner). Not only is it actually hydrating (like it says) but it was ALSO long-lasting (most I find are one or the other). I ate, drank, and talked to my heart’s content and only had to re-apply ONCE!
The only reason this isn’t my number one is that I don’t wear it everyday (I should though, it’s that awesome!) Available at department stores in Aus and NZ.
NUMBER 1!
Chi Chi Viva La Diva “You Had Me At Hello” Matte Lipstick RRP $20
Every. Single. Time I wear this colour I get stopped in the street and asked where it’s from! It’s a fun, fresh colour without being too “girly” (not that girly is bad!).
I love wearing orange so this colour is on constant rotation in my Summer beauty routine – but it’s a universally flattering colour so don’t be scared to give it a go.
Why is it so good? As well as the colour, it has the most divine smell, it goes on super-smooth but stays in place for hours.
This is the only bright lip colour I’ll wear when I’m working – I spend SO much time talking in a client Style Coaching session and it’s the only lippy that stays in place!
Why are you still sitting there! Go! Get yourself this colour NOW for summer! (oh, you’re right, 3 days before Christmas, shops will be mental! Maybe wait until the Boxing Day sales – that will be MUCH quieter…..yeah right!) It’s available at chemists and department stores everywhere!
So there are my top 5 lippies for 2014 (well one technically is for 2015, but hey – I’m letting you in on the secret early)
