Some of my favourite pieces in the wardrobe are the ones you don’t really expect when you buy them.
I picked up this wee STORM skirt from Recycle Boutique in Newmarket last year, just thinking that I liked the colour and if I got a few wears out of it, I would be pretty happy with that.
Turns out, it’s actually quite a versatile piece – one that I can definitely dress up and down to suit the occasion.
I know I use that word quite a lot – versatile – but it’s really important to see the value in clothes, and get the most out of them, especially if you are on a budget.
So here is the printed skirt that I love, and how to style it up three different ways.
Stylish professional.
Now this might not be considered a professional look for some industries, but it’s perfect for those creatives out there, and those that maybe have a semi-corporate dress code at work.
This is the perfect outfit for visiting clients houses, I have a hint of fashion-ness (clashing prints, funky shoes) but at the same time, it’s an approachable and comfortable outfit.
The trick to wearing a skirt this shape (no matter what shape you are) is to TUCK YOUR BLOUSE IN.
You want to make sure you aren’t adding extra bulk to your frame by wearing a top over the bulkiness of the skirt – define that waist (even if you don’t have one!)
Nighttime Glam.
I love taking things from day to night with a simple change of shoes (and adding a little more WOW to your makeup works too).
Adding a darker colour with the print will also make it seem a little more night-time appropriate.
A high-waisted skirt always gives the illusion that your legs are longer than they really are – it’s one of the easiest ways to play with your proportion.
If you are worried about shortening your upper body too much (this can happen when you are bigger-busted) make sure you are still creating vertical lines down your frame – either with a long necklace, or with a coat like I’ve done.
Cool and Casual
Out to dinner one night? Out to breaky the next! This kind of skirt is a great one to take travelling because you’ve got the best of both worlds in the one little printed pieces of fabric.
Pair it back with a tee (make sure you are still tucking it in though) and some causal shoes – as we know, converse trainers are my fave go-to’s for that casual look.
Now seeing as this skirt is no longer available in stores, here are three more that ARE and that will so the same job…..
SHOP THE SKIRTS: Portmans skirt $79.95 | Next from Ezibuy floral skirt $37.50 | Sisley skirt from Asos $83.35.
Remember, this skirt is not just for you gorgeous Pear-shaped lovelies, it will work well on most shapes so worth giving a go next time you hit the stores.
It will also carry on into winter because it will be easy to layer up with tights and boots so not just a summer item!
How do you feel about printed skirts? Something worth trying? Tell me what you think!
