The term “capsule wardrobe” always seems to grab people’s attention doesn’t it. Maybe because the idea of it promises EASE! Once you’ve got all the pieces, getting dressed every morning should be that much easier.
We like things to be easy don’t we (I know I do, especially with a wee one to think about now too!), and one thing that would certainly make life easier would be to not have to think which top to wear with what pants.
For me (a girl who loves clothes) a capsule wardrobe isn’t so much about JUST buying these pieces and wearing them and only them the whole season, it’s more about SHOPPING SMARTER and thinking of different uses and combinations I can get from a few key pieces.
One of the best tools I’ve been using lately to help my shop smarter, is Westpac’s new money-tracking app, CashNav. Basically it tells me WHERE my money is going (and boy was it a shock when I first used it…. all of the monies on the clothes – eek!)
Over the last few months, I’ve been tracking my spending (and also blogging about different ways you can use them app when it comes to your style. You can read the earlier blogs HERE, HERE and HERE)
Using this app has made me REALLY think about WHAT I’m spending my hard-earned cash on, and even more than before, it’s made me think about how my clothes can work together!
So because we all like things to be easy, and we all want to SAVE money, by shopping smarter and buying the right things, I’ve put together a Spring Capsule Wardrobe for you!
SHOP THE CAPSULE…..
1. Betty Basics tee $32.90 | 2. H&M denim jacket $49.99 | 3. Converse leather trainers from Shoe Connection $144.49 | 4. Moli tan wedges from Styletread.com.au $169.95 | 5. Ziera Toni slides $199.95 | 6. Decjuba tie front dress $129.95 | 7. White and gold leather tassel necklace $39.95 | 8. Elm Saturdays and Sundays tee $64.95 | 9. Ruby & Lili denim-look skirt $59 | 10. Decjuba maxi dress $159.95 | 11. Elm Weekender drop crotch navy pants $64.95 | 12. H&M white skinny jeans $14.99
The key behind my choices is BUYING SMARTER – looking for items that have versatility in them, and can be worn in more than one way, with more than one thing.
I LOVE the Decjuba tie front dress because you can either wear it on its own, or, with the white skinny jeans, kinda like a tunic! Pieces like this are definitely worth spending your cash on.
Detailed tees work with plain bottoms, but they also add a little interest to your wardrobe (and stripes are practically a neutral right?).
Stick with neutral shoes that go with everything if you only want to have a few pairs. Metallics are big this season, but they work really well as a neutral too.
Here are just a few of the MANY combinations you can put together with just these 12 pieces….
Everyday style
Whether you’re working from home, or just hanging out on the weekend, these outfits tick both the comfort AND style boxes. There are so many more combos you could do but this is just to get you started…..
Weekend catchups
These looks are just that wee bit dressier than your everyday look (if you want them to be anyway). They are the perfect outfits for those movie dates, or to wear to that 3-yr-olds birthday, or to head to brunch with friends.
Dressed up casual
Taking your looks to the next level is really a matter of shoes. Add a wedge to almost any of these outfits and you’ve got a slightly dressier look. You’ve still got a great combo of smart and casual in these choices through. Hair and makeup will take your look to the next level too, so never under-estimate the power of a good lippy and clean, blowdried hair!
Remember, I’m only going to ever recommend pieces that I REALLY think are worth their money, and I love how this whole collection works together in so many ways!
The app is a great way to look closely at your spending, then re-prioritise where that money goes – like onto something REALLY useful in your wardrobe (like these pieces perhaps!)
Do you like the idea of a capsule wardrobe? Or do you just shop until you drop? Tell me about it in the comments below and we can all save together!

I have been doing the capsule wardrobe thing for a whole year since I discovered project 333. I love adding new pieces each season and not buying crap I don’t need. And I LOVE the pieces you’ve picked. I have trouble choosing casual pieces but I’m getting all of these, though I already have some bits which will work including rose gold chucks, denim jacket and stripe tee. Thanks for the inspiration
Please do a work (corporate) capsule! It’s so hard (esp for bigger sizes) would love your tips.
Hey Theresa, I wrote one pretty recently, you can read it here: http://chasingcait.com/fashion-blogger/build-workwear-capsule-wardrobe/
even if the products aren’t current anymore, you get a good idea for what you need 🙂
Hi.
I really love this style of shopping! Great idea. TAKES the work out of it. Only thing I would change us the white jeans. LIVE them, but not on my legs. Thanks.😊
Autocorrect is a pain! Arghh
