I LOVE a style challenge! (hello #everydaystyle, I’ve been playing along for years now!)
So this style challenge has come off the back of some chats that have been going on in my online styling group, StyleMe.
There are a few gals, me included, that are finding that we are buying more than we are wearing and the space in the wardrobe is suffering haha!
I’m a massive fan of practising what I preach, so I’ve set a challenge to the girls in the group who want to play along, to NOT SPEND A CENT on clothes for the whole month of May!
Now you don’t have to join in by any means, I guess this post is as much to make ME accountable as it is to inspire you. If I say it out loud, I really have to do it right?
Do you think you could do it?
I really want to show you that you don’t need to spend heaps of money (or any, for that matter) on clothes if you have a little more faith in what you’ve got.
Sometimes we shop to fill a void, we are looking for that “perfect” jacket, or dress and we just keep buying and buying because guess what, it usually doesn’t exist!
Have you got things in your wardrobe with the tag still on? Have you ever thought about WHY?
Maybe you don’t know how to wear it, or you’re waiting for that special occasion to pull it out.
Well maybe tomorrow is that special occasion, and maybe if you’re forced to look more closely at your OWN wardrobe, you will find something to wear it with, and what better way to REALLY look at what you’ve got in your own wardrobe, than to make a commitment not to add to it for a whole month.
HOW TO PLAY ALONG.
1. Download a FREE PRINTABLE calendar (like THIS ONE), you can either print off the whole thing, or just print off the month of May.
2. Stick in on your wall, or in your wardrobe, or on your bathroom mirror.
3. Work out what your reward is for completing this challenge (something non-clothing-based preferably), and write it on the bottom of the calendar, or even better, find a picture that represents it and stick it next to the calendar.
4. Learn to Shop Your Own Wardrobe. It’s the backbone behind this challenge! I’ll be sharing a post on this later in the week
5. Grab my eBook if you don’t have it already (GET IT HERE). It’s a great guide to help you get your style into shape, and will really help with the no-spending!
6. Every day you don’t buy something, cross of that day on the calendar – it feels really satisfying to cross those days off so make sure you do it!
7. Play along online – Post your outfits online and tag me (Facebook – @chasingcait. Instagram – @chasingcait_stylecoach) and use the hashtags #shopyourwardrobe and #chasingcaitnospendmaychallenge and I’ll make sure to share some of my fave outfits online!
We start THIS MONDAY – May 1st (duh) are you joining us? Tell me in the comments below, and I’ll make sure I keep you accountable too!
Good luck!
