So I’m just going to say it.
I’m not the biggest fan of activewear as non-activewear. If you’re not going to the gym, can you really not find something else to wear?
If that’s your bag baby, then more power to ya! But I don’t dig it, and I generally don’t do it.
BUT, I do definitely think you can add elements of activewear into your everyday wardrobe, to give you that great balance of comfort and style.
Trainers (as you may have noticed with me) are one of my favourite ways to do that – but how do you rock a trainer without looking like Jerry Seinfeild, when you’re not heading to the gym? Read on for my expert tips;
Go ultra-feminine
My favourite way to off-set wearing a trainer, is to go ultra-feminine with the rest of your look.
Find a gorgeous dress that you love, and pair it back for Sunday brunch with a comfy pair of trainers as the temps cool down. Add a denim jacket to complete the off-duty look.
OUTFIT NOTES: Feather & Noise straw boater hat $29 + Hi There by Karen Walker dress fro MYER (old season) + New Balance 547 core trainers in ‘daybreak/overcast’ from New Balance outlet Onehunga in store only for $100 {kindly gifted}
Think about the style
Trainers don’t always mean “shoes I will run 5 kms in”. They can be way more casual and feminine than your standard running shoe.
Look for styles that are more streamline, or have some luxury element to them, like a metallic or a leather finish. Here are some great options.

Choose soft colours
Pastel pink trainers – you are my spirit animal. They are all of the things I love; feminine, comfortable and totally on trend right now haha.
You can totally go the uber-feminine style avenue like I just mentioned, or pair them back with your good old jeans, the colour will still play up the feminine angle.

Roll, always roll!
If you’re wearing your trainers with pants, try rolling up the cuffs to expose a little more ankle. It makes for a much more flattering line down your leg (and no, it won’t make you look shorter if you are short! It just helps draw attention to the slimmest part of your leg).
Skinny pants are always the best silhouette to rock out with your trainers, but don’t be scared of the stylish culotte+trainer combo, it can be a super-fun one for the weekend!
See? You don’t have to don the full activewear get-up to be comfortable and wear your trainers. And if you have an issue with me, having an issue with activewear, then you need to go read THIS post 😉
