Ok. So they tell you about the lack of sleep a newborn brings…. but no one can really prepare you for the whole new bleary-eyed world you step into am I right mummas?
Our gorgeous little bug has been with us for a few weeks now so we are getting into more of a routine, which is giving ME a little more time to feel like myself again, (washing my hair counts as my day’s WIN right now haha!). And over the last few weeks, I’ve learnt a couple of quick tricks for distracting from the tiredness and helping myself look (and FEEL) somewhat half decent.

So whether you are a new mumma-bear too, or you just want to look more bright-eyed and bushy-tailed in the mornings, thanks to Estée Lauder’s Revitalising Supreme Wake-up Balm, here are my top 5 tips for adding a little more zing first thing….
1. Get Dressed
I know that sounds like a no-brainer, but it’s harder than you think sometimes right? My uniform right now is PJ pants (cute ones with owls on them mind you…) and feeding singlets, so just the simple task of putting some clothes on that don’t smell like milk definitely gives me more pep in my step!
My go-to ‘leave the house’ outfit is pretty standard, but it makes all the difference when I need that extra boost. It’s involves maternity jeans (they are SOOOOO comfy!), trainers and stripes.
This wee tip also applies to those of us that work from home, get up and ‘get dressed’ for work. You’ll instantly look and feel more alert and awake, ready for the work day.
2. Bright colour is your friend
Black can drain us at the best of times, let alone when we feel like we haven’t had any good shut-eye for about 100 years (not one to exaggerate….).
With Spring just around the corner, it’s time to stock up on some colour again! Pick a colour that you love to wear and that you know suits you, and it will INSTANTLY lift your face.
Or if the thought of that is just too hard, just pop a bright lippy on (I’ve got some cool colours combos over on THIS POST)
3. Wear something you LOVE
This ties into the first tip. Don’t just throw on any old thing, put on something that you REALLY love, and it will instantly make you feel great!
I LOVE the floral bomber in the pic above, it made me feel fresh and Spring-like, even if I did fall asleep in the pic haha.

4. Add a little bling
Pre-baby, a statement necklace was always my go-to if I wanted to add a little something-something to an outfit and that definitely hasn’t changed post baby!
It’s all about DISTRACTION right? Get people to look at the amazing piece of bling around your neck, and they won’t see the suitcase-sized bags under your eyes.
5. Look after your skin
Time is VERY limited for most of us right? (Mum or not) so every little thing you can do to make your skin look brighter and more awake is a bonus.
Which is why I’m LOVING the amazing Estée Lauder Revitalizing Supreme Wake Up Balm. It’s pretty much been the only thing I’ve been putting on my face since the wee munchkin was born (I can’t even remember what it’s like to do a full face of makeup!).

The balm is a great multi-purpose product that can be used day or night, alone, or layered over your moisturiser. It has a slight shimmer to it, thanks to light-reflecting pearls in the balm, which gives your face that “I’M AWAKE! REALLY I AM” radiance.
HIGHLY recommend this balm for new mums (and everyone else) if you want to give you skin that little extra glow in the morning.
Like I mentioned before, these tips are not just for mums, you can definitely give ANY of these a go! But I’d also love to hear YOUR advice!
Share with me in the comments below your best style tips for looking more alive and awake in the mornings, I’d love to hear them!
Until Next Time, In Love & Style Always,

Concealer on inside corners and under eyes is my daily saviour and a cream blush which gives a fresh dewy look rather than powder blush.
My top tip for bags under the eyes (from my modelling years) is to run a face cloth under cold water, ring out, then fold and press under each eye for a couple of minutes. Works wonders on puffy eyes! From one Mum who has been there done that, and still have mornings like that when my son is up all night coughing!
Just because your tired doesn’t mean you want to look tired aye Cait 😉 Congrats on your wee darling Emmie. You are dong an amazing job still keeping up with your blogs and looking after a new born. Totally agree that you are doing just splendid if you make it out of your PJs each day with a newborn in the house.
It will get easier Cait, hang in there gorgeous X
PS. Am currently touring California and am loving the shopping over here and all the choices in labels and footwear – need to buy another suitcase to bring home all the new shoes! They are so much cheaper over here – like a quarter of the price compared to NZ!
How, how are you doing this Cait? Writing your fabulous blog to help us feel & look great while caring for your newborn? I take my hat off to you mama – such an inspiration!
haha lots of writing when Emmie is sleeping!! xx
