Now don’t be scared! Some people think that leather-look pants are just for tall, skinny people, but that’s NOT the case! I think anyone can have a go at rocking these, it’s just about HOW you wear them.
Now as we know, VERSATILITY is probably the word I use the most on Chasing Cait (that, and “vertical lines”…. am I right?!) but it’s really important to see how much “bang-for-your-buck” you can get from your clothing. So let’s look at how you can wear these fun leather-look pants 3 different ways, plus I’ll show you some different options you can get your hands on right now!
Too hot!
Leather-look pants are a great way to add some wow to a night out outfit (although make sure they don’t squeak too much when you wear them, way to kill the mood on date night haha!).
The texture of the pants makes them seem more dressy than your jeans, but you can still wear pants if that’s your thing (or even it if isn’t, you can still wear them, its ok).
Add some sexy heels and a gorgeous clutch and you’re ready to go!
Get my pants here: The Warehouse skinny pleather pants $29Â (I bought up a size and am wearing a 14 here)
Too cold!
Yep. It’s freezing here in New Zealand thanks to a whopping great high over the country and these leather-look pants are a great way to stay warm as they trap the heat next to your body. (see…. sometimes it pays off to wear pleather….. wait, did I just say that out aloud!?)
Rug up with soft layers that contrast against the hard look of the leather (or faux leather in this case)Â and you’re all set for that smart-casual day look in Winter.
Just right
Lounging around on the weekend? Casual Friday at work? Heading out with the family for brunch? These leather-look pants are perfect for that too!
Use a more casual fabric, like the chambray shirt, to dress the whole look down. Trainers are always good for that too.
So here are a couple more options for you to try, all available now (as are the ones I’m wearing from The Warehouse. You can get them here)
SHOP THE LOOK (l-r): Grace Hill leather front jeans from EziBuy $199.99 | Decjuba PU/ponte joggers $77.95 (on sale) | Â Jeanswest Cora wet look jeans $99.95
My biggest piece of advice to you? Go and try them on! There are so many different leather-look or leather-trim pants out there in many different shapes and sizes, there is a pair out there for you!
So what do you think? Something you’d try? Tell me your thoughts in the comments below, I’d love to hear.
Long time fan of your blog Cait! Where is the pretty white sweater and necklace from in the first pic?
Thanks Eva 🙂
The sweater is also from The Warehouse and the necklace is from Portmans, both a few months ago, but may still be there! xx
Got the jeans west curve pair. Fit fab, warm and feel good to wear
oh yay!! they are so comfy aren’t they 🙂
Thanks Cait – I am in love with your blogs. I have just purchased some ASOS leather-look leggings (they look similar to the Grace Hill ones in the blog). Do the rules of “leggings are not pants” apply here? Meaning, do I have to wear a long tunic over the pants or can I get away with what you are doing with the top short at front, longer at the back?
Hey Aimee, I’m so glad you love the blog!
I think with the pants, it’s kinda up to you how comfy you feel (and how thick they are!) as to whether you treat them as leggings or pants.
My bum is still covered (mostly) in the chambray shirt but I wouldn’t go much shorter 🙂 hope that helps a little xx
I bought my very first pair of leather look pants from Farmers at the weekend when they had 60% off most clothing. As a big girl (size 18-20) I was NOT confident but decided to give them a go. I have to say I loved them the second I put them on and actually felt really good! I wore them for the first time on Monday with a long line chiffon style tunic top and a cardigan, and I love your ideas for dressing them down too. I may have to embrace the chambray shirt look now!
yay Charlotte! that makes me really happy to hear 🙂 It’s all about HOW you wear them isn’t it xx
You look gorgeous Cait. I am not sure leather pants are for me but I do love the wet look jeans!!
thanks Kelly – the wet look is a great way to get the sheen without going fully-fledged leather 🙂
