One of my “insta-friends” (people that follow you and you follow on Instagram) commented on a recent #EverydayStyle post in which I was wearing a denim shirt. She wanted to know if denim was back and how to wear it if it was – so here I am obliging you @sam_stories 😉
Denim is one of those genius fabrics that works in almost any style. It’s a nifty combination of cotton and lycra mostly – the stretch and weight of the denim will depend on the combination of the two. What gives denim it’s trademark look is the way the fabric is woven – the thread one way are in a colour (usually blue) and the threads the other way are white – this combo gives denim it’s distinct look and feel.
Now you may have seen a little more denim round the stores than just your average pair of jeans lately, so let’s explore all the other fun ways to wear denim!
Denim or chambray shirts
This versatile denim shirt from Glassons has become a bit of a staple in my wardrobe. It works well with prints and textures (like the floral shorts or the sequin skirt) but also works equally well with black or white. I can see me wearing this top long into the winter months!
Here are a few to choose from:
Denim pants
And no we are not talking about jeans (however, jeans are ALWAYS in fashion, so if in doubt, wear jeans, but that’s a whole other blog….). No, I’m talking about denim pants.
One of the biggest trends that has been around for a little while now is draped pants (in fact I wrote a blog about them last week). They are comfy, flattering (yes, even if you think you have a big bum, they are flattering) and versatile. Plus in the summer months, they are a lot cooler to wear as they are not tight and clingy – they are drapey. Here is my fave pair from Portmans….
You can still grab my pants in store on online, I’ve just rolled the cuffs up once to show off my ankles a little more but they look great all the way down too. Here are some more to choose from…..
Denim dress
Now this does have kick-backs to the 90′ for me! (hands up who else had that long denim dress with the shoestring straps and the round neckline in the 90’s, oh and we called in Tencel then too – I see ya, I knew it) but there are so many different shaped denim dresses now that you can find one that will suit your shape and style. Here is my little favourite from Jacqui E.
I bought this great frock on sale at the end of last year, but below are some other options available now!
So there are just a couple of different ways to get more denim in your life (much like fibre really… wait, what?). How do you wear your denim? Are you a jeans girl? Or does it excite your life in a dress? I’d love to know – tell me in the comments below.
Until next time
