If you’re a child of the 70’s or 80’s like me, this trend may bring back a few memories of childhood (but I think in a good way!).
So let’s talk SHIRRING! First of all, what is it? It’s the technique of stitching a non-stretch fabric together with elastic thread so it has stretch in it. It’s usually used on the bodice of a top or dress and the best bit about it, is that it makes the garment REALLY easy to fit a whole bunch of different shapes and sizes!
I have to admit, I’ve got a slight obsession with shirring-style dresses atm (they are great for pregnant boobs and bellies!) They really are comfortable to wear because they are form-fitting, but not clingy so you feel like you have room to move!
It’s unexpectedly flattering on a bigger bust, but definitely works on a smaller bust too. Shirring is traditionally used on printed fabrics, but even if feminine florals aren’t really your style, there are definitely heaps of plain options out there too.
Shirring is definitely making a comeback, and I don’t see it going anywhere, anytime soon, so if a shirred style dress is calling your name, here are 10 of my faves that you can rock this summer…. now which style will you choose?
1. EziBuy Emerge Shirred Bodice Midi Dress $129.95
2. Mister Zimi apricot gingham “Savannah” dress $189 (AUD)
3. Postie shirred bust dress in navy/white polka dots $15
4. Decjuba “Erina” midi dress $159.90
5. Bohemian Traders shirred bodice dress in light leopard $297
6. Feather & Noise “Sarita” dress in mint/navy spot $89 (AUD)
7. Little Party Dress Coco Dress in green/blue $89.95
8. Country Road off shoulder tuck dress $229.00
9. CottonOn Kids (mumma edition) Annie sleeveless dress $69.99 (yes this means there are matching kids versions!!)
10. Atmos & Here Stella shirred midi dress from The Iconic $103.48 (AUD on 30% off sale!)
There are just so many gorgeous options out there, and they are so flattering on so many shapes and sizes. You can have sleeves, no sleeves, thicker straps, off the shoulder, and 99% are bra-friendly (the other 10% just require a strapless). I mean, what more could you aks for in a summer dress!
Now the question is, which one will you wear on Christmas Day!
