So this is a little bit of a different spin on our series that Mo and I from Dressing Up have been bringing to you.
Usually we feature the same dress on the two of us, and show you how you can style it differently. But this time we wanted to choose a few different themes, and they interpret in our own ways (bumps, body shapes and budgets all contributed to this call haha!)
Mo and I both love dressing up! Any excuse right? So with Christmas party season in full flight (and NYE just around the corner) we wanted to give you guys a whole bunch of ideas about what to wear for any fun and fancy events you have coming up.
The two themes we decided to go with (which should be no surprise to those of you who know either of us….), are BRIGHTS (which seemed to turn into BRIGHT PINK) and SPARKLES! Fun right??
Here’s what we picked, and why we loved them
PRETTY IN PINK
Pink is in our blood (look at Mo’s hair for goodness sake). It’s a colour filled with such joy and fun! And if you’re a fellow fan, the good news is there is HEAPS of it around this season.
You can choose to either make the one colour the statement, and accessorise with neutrals (like me), or go all out with brights (like Mo)! Either way, you’ll certainly being joy and fun to the party right?
I’m wearing: Asos bright pink ruffle midi dress $76.00 (size 6-18) + ebay necklace, vintage clutch and David Lawrence heels (similar here from Decjuba ^)
Size note: I’m wearing the 14 and I’m glad I went up a size. The dress is a gorgeous fabric with a lovely drape but there is no give in it so the larger size accommodates growing baby bump well. The beauty of this dress is that you can just tie the tie tighter if it’s a little on the big side.
Mo is rocking: City Chic dress from The Iconic $99.95 AUD (sizes XS/14 – XL/22) + Merchant 1948 heels $209.90
Even if you don’t want to go full pink dress, you can accessorise with some shoes, or even bright pink nails. It’s the perfect colour to get you into the festive spirit.
A BIT OF SPARKLE
Speaking of the festive spirit, why not just dress like a Christmas bauble haha!
So funny story with this theme…. I actually picked another dress. Bought it online. Didn’t try it on until the night before the shoot…..
Turns out when you’re pregnant, you’re belly just keeps on growing. So the original dress didn’t fit over my expanding tummy! (turns out it was a straighter cut that I had originally thought).
Luckily though, I had this gorgeous backup, but sadly it’s no longer available, so I’ve given you some other options below that you can get now (including the original dress I wanted to wear), oh and Mo’s is still online too!
I’m wearing: Bohemian Traders sequin mini (sold out) + vintage clutch + earrings (similar here from Cait & Co) + Sportsgirl heels (similar here from Decjuba^)
Mo is wearing: Little Party Dress black sequin dress $89.95 (sizes 8-18) + Merchant 1948 rose gold sandals $209.90
Want to see what she has to say about our frocks and how we’ve styled them? Read her post here.
So as promised, here are three (as well as Mo’s) that you can get your hands on now, and just take the inspo from the dress I’m wearing that still fits over the bump haha!
SHOP THE FROCKS (l-r): Next sequin shift dress from EziBuy $114.00 | Coop Slip-Away dress $199 | Little Party Dress (they are definitely the go-to for sequins!) glory back sequin dress $74.95
Don’t be scared of a bit of bling, it can really make you feel like the belle of the ball! And you don’t just have to save them for the super-special occasions! Sequins are also quite a classic style, so if you find a dress you love, you’ll have it for years to come.
You could rock any of these to drinks with the girls, or date night with hubby (and a great excuse to go to that fancy restaurant!), go on, you know you want to…..
So what are you going to wear for your Christmas do this year? I hope this gives you some inspo? Tell us in the comments below what you’re planning, we’d love to know!

How do you ladies wear sequins without scratching the living daylights out of your inner arms? I always end up with cuts unless I wear a long sleeved jacket over the top of the sequins, ruining the effect! 😭
eek! thats a great question. I think it totally depends on the sequin. I know exactly what you mean, but I haven’t found that problem with the dress I’m wearing, the sequins are quite “soft” if that makes sense.
This made me happy. Love a good party dress. I have no sparkles tho…
