I don’t get out much at the moment.
Tiny humans tend to put the brakes on much of a social life right? haha!
So when I do get the chance to go out, I want to make the most of it! Sure, dinner with the hubby is always a nice option, but I’m really missing my girlfriend time so GIRLS NIGHT it is! With all of us having such crazy schedules, I really embraced the opportunity to catch up, drink up and DRESS up!
So when SKYCITY Auckland heard that I was on the lookout for some girls outing options, they suggested we head into their amazing restaurant precinct and try some of their delicious Spring cocktails – yum!
GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE FUN!
Now half the fun of being a personal stylist and fashion blogger, is choosing outfits to wear out! (and like I said, I don’t get out much remember??) so I thought it would be really fun to choose three different outfits, and get the amazing bar staff at three of the stunning SKYCITY restaurants to use my outfits as inspiration on what delicious cocktails to serve me!
So here are three looks you could rock for a girls night out, and also the yummy cocktails you could try to pair with your outfits haha!
Apple Peggy at The Sugar Club
OUTFIT DETAILS: Sacha Drake High Neck, Sleeveless Jersey top in navy $159 (AUD) + Sacha Drake White Rose Larkspur high low skirt $349 (AUD) + Sportsgirl heels (similar here from Merchant 1948) + vintage clutch
OUTFIT INSPIRATION: We automatically think “dress” most of the time when it comes to special occasions, but sometimes a skirt can make far more of a statement. I LOVE everything about this skirt. The shape (so dramatic), the fabric, and the pockets! (always the pockets). Paired back with a simple, yet sexy top, the skirt becomes the hero. (stylist note: I’ve just worn a normal bra with this top, and tucked the straps under the neckline – no strapless needed)
Bartender Oscar took inspiration from the freshness in the fabric of the skirt, and made us a delectable Apple Peggy (check the use of the apple in the cocktail with the shape having a subtle nod to an Aussie icon, also mirror the Aussie designer I was wearing!)
Ikebana at MASU by Nic Watt
OUTFIT DETAILS: H&M kimono wrap dress $89.99 + Zara suede heels (both currently in store)
OUTFIT INSPIRATION: When we asked the amazing bar manager Paul, what cocktail he thought would match best, he suggested the delicately sweet, and abundantly floral Ikebana – he did not disappoint!
How could you go past a kimono style as a nod to the Japanese flavours of MASU. If you’re heading out with the girls, have some fun with colour and print! Don’t be boring and blend into the background with black, this is your chance to have fun!
The Sparking Kiwi at Huami
OUTFIT DETAILS: State of Play cotton lace top from Farmers $109.99 + Bohemian Traders sequin skirt (old season) + Sportsgirl heels (similar here from Merchant 1948) + vintage clutch
OUTFIT INSPIRATION: Don’t be scared to clash textures on a girls night out! I love the combo of lace and sequins (I mean, let’s face it – sequins go with everything right?).
If the texture-overload feels too much, then pair a simple top back with the sequins, or a plain skirt or pant back with the lace blouse.
When I asked Bar Manager Matt to suggest a cocktail off the menu that complimented my outfit, he didn’t expect to see sequins on my bottom half haha! But the Sparkling Kiwi was always going to be the perfect match here! He even kept the top of the cocktail clear to mirror my sheer blouse.
Spending time with your BFF’s should be reason to celebrate and give you the chance to wear those things that you have in your wardrobe that maybe feel too much for everyday life (again – I still think sequins go with everything). With the amazing settings on offer in the SKYCITY restaurant precinct, a girls night (or long lunch) deserves a fabulous outfit – so why not get the girls together, find that piece of fabulous to wear, and head out for a night of fun!

Love the Kimono dress, especially with those red heel – beautiful. I would also try that Ikebana cocktail because it looks like a work of art. How very Japanese. I would meet up with my sister for a girls night out – she’s just moved away to a new city and it would be great to get the sisters back together for a night out.
All three outfits are so beautiful but I haven’t worn anything like that in soooo long I actually don’t know what would suit me…however I know that Margarita’s & I get on very well!
haha x
Mojito for me! I love how fresh they are for any occassion!
Holidaying girlfriends on return from sunny destinations won’t have one up on me when I turn up in this number the sexy kimono wrap dress…they will be talking about the dress….,and when they start talking about how hot it was on their holiday…I can focus on my sweet floral ikebana…like I was There too….
What a great competition and gorgeous photos, I would definitely go for the Apple Peggy at Sugar Club, you are wearing my favourite outfit in this too! I too have little ones so would love to win and spend some time with my girlfriends…
I’ve always loved Japanese style so hands down I’d pick the kimono dress with the Ikebana cocktail would love a night out it’s been awhile with a new baby I’d love a reason to get out the house and have some adult time with my husband ❤️
Do you know what? Because I am an hourglass and my sister HOUNDS me to show off my waist at ALL times, I think I’d switch it up a little and take the beautiful Sasha Drake High Neck Jersey Top and put it with that fabulous sequin skirt and finish it off with those burgundy Zara suede heels. Gosh you find some amazing things Caitlin!
And because I love nothing more than showing off my great country, I’d take my lovely American and Australian friend to sip on those divine sparkling Kiwi cocktails. This would be a great chance to subtly bring up the fact that New Zealand not only has some of the friendliest people around, but some of the most versatile fruit! I mean how many people can say their national icon can be made into a cocktail!?
It’d be a night to remember!
sounds like an awesome night! Can I come too? haha
That kimono dress is perfection and I’d love to try the Ikebana cocktail too. I’d use the voucher to treat my best friend (and fellow solo mum) to dinner once my divorce paperwork comes through – she’s been such a rock for me the past couple of years!
I love all the outfits so am picking purely on the cocktails! Apple Peggy for Me! Wish I could win the outfit too ! I’d love a girls night!
I think probably the apple Peggy although I’d definitely be game to try all of them! I love my girls, 3 amazing mum’s from a Facebook due group. 3 years later and we’re still going strong.
My fav is the Sasha Drake outfit, absolutely love that skirt and can see myself wearing it out on a girls night for sure !
I’d order a classic Brandy Alexander. Yum!
I love the Sascha Drake skirt and top. I would also have the apple Pegg as it sounds refreshing and I think the outfit looks clean and crisp.
A night out would be incredible. Like you I don’t get out too much!
I would choose the Sascha Drake outfit. Love that skirt. I would choose a Pinacolad
OMG, so much awesome here, you are so right, we as boring humans are scared to embrace patterns, so if I was feeling as bold and as beautiful as you I would choose the sequins, and of course a cocktail with the word ‘kiwi’ in it has to be chosen, (it’s patriotic and healthy right 😉 ) – we just need our good ole country to show us some sunshine!
I know right, bring on the sunshine! x
Absolutely love the Sacha Drake skirt & top – stunning in every way. And sipping away at an Ikebana sounds like the perfect way to spend a girls night out – long over due for one of these,
Loving the retro H&M kimono wrap dress on you…classy and effortless and because the Pina Colada is bit retro tropical too and as I’m hankering for Summer, that would be my cocktail of choice!
I know, bring on Summer right?
Has to be the kimono wrap dress and those gorgeous colorful shoes!!!!! The ikebana cocktail sounds delicious ❤️
Apple peggy looks absolutely delish and something I would most definitely try!! If you like strawberries try the strawberry daiquiri from Sean Connollys The Grill. Fresh strawberries and the best daiquiri (along with their coffee one mmm mmm) I have found in Auckland City thus far. Pair this with your first look 💯 👗🍎🍸. Heading into town with the ladies Nov 4th for our Pre-Xmas drinkees and this would go down an absolute treat .
oooooh that sounds so yummy!
Love the sasha drake skirt and top! Def need a night out with the girls drinking cocktails, as I can’t remember the last time we have been out together to let our hair down and have some fun.
I love your kimono dress, and also the lace top (can never have too many black lace tops!) and i love the sound of drinking the ikebana 🍹My friend and I have 3 kids each and have a cocktail and movie night planned mid school holidays for an inspiring re-charge, she introduced me to your blog and there will be some great clothing chat amongst our much needed catch up!!
Ooh the sparkling kiwi! And the lace top with sequin skirt – love my bling. Am in desperate need of a girls night out, and perhaps an overnight stay! Have only had one overnight away from kids since my daughter was born 5 1/2 years ago, and son 3 1/2 years ago…. argh! Please save my sanity… haha 😉
And we currently have no kitchen due to renovations… so I’ve cooked the last 3 family meals on a sandwich press…
Love the Drake skirt but not sure I could pull it off with my height for bffs bday dinner. The Apple Peggy is right up my alley.
Outfit of choice has to be Sacha Drake, that is one lovely skirt! But in terms of cocktail, Ikebana looks and sounds like a great start to an evening. Let’s go girls :p swap the converse for some heels!
I have a night out with school friends fyi 20 years ago I’m sure the ikebana cocktail would go down a treat. I think wrap dress is gorgeous!
Kimono wrap dress, hides the pale wintery body ( bring on summer!) with great prints. You need to feel good and look good when there’s a babysitter at home for those rare night outs with hubby.
Well as you know I can’t have cocktails at the moment but I’m sure a few mocktails would go down well and I could celebrate with friends and treat them! I love the skirt in the first photo. While outfit fab x
Can’t go pass that Sacha Drake skirt, just beautiful! Also can’t beat a Queensland designer. Certainly miss pop into her store in Brisbane. Need a girls night out with my amazing Auckland girlfriends!
I love skirts the Sasha Drake outfit is gorgeous. The Apple Peggy sounds delish a little sour I would imagine just right for a summer drink. That’s presuming summer arrives in Auckland!
I’m heading up to Auckland (from Christchurch) in November to celebrate a special friend’s 40th birthday, and I think we’d love a night out at SKYCITY with cocktails and gorgeous outfits! My favourite is definitely the Apple Peggy (one of my favourite flavours) and that skirt is to die for! I like all of them though to be fair!
ooooh what a great reason! x
You look stunning in the Apple Peggy at the Sugar Club – and that cocktail sounds delish!
You could have been speaking directly to me – black is always my go to colour, but I love the suggestion of breaking out of the ordinary for a fun girls night out outfit.
My little boy is one in two weeks time and I would love a girls night out to celebrate *somehow* surviving the first year of being a Mum and raising such a sweet boy 💙
woot woot! that is definitely reason for celebration 🙂 good luck x
